Staff Backend Engineer - Grafana k6 Remote opportunity for applicants in Canada (EST time zone). The Opportunity Join the synthetics squad that builds and operates Grafana Cloud k6 and Grafana Cloud Synthetics – a multi‑tenant distributed system implemented in Go and running on Kubernetes across GCP, Azure, and AWS. You will work on billions of synthetic tests each month. What You’ll Be Doing Design and implement high‑quality, scalable services to be consumed by multiple Grafana Cloud products. Collaborate with product, design, and documentation teams to develop features that align with customer needs. Contribute to the technical direction and vision of the team, participating in strategic discussions. Represent Grafana Labs in open‑source forums, working groups, and events when necessary. Work cross‑functionally with Sales, Product, and Support to deliver a holistic product experience. Own services through follow‑the‑sun on‑call rotations. Embrace our open‑source culture and contribute to projects beyond your team’s scope. What Makes You a Great Fit 8+ years of experience in a major language (e.g., Go, Python, .NET, Java, Rust). Go experience is not required but preferred. Demonstrated production‑level Kubernetes monitoring experience. Experience with cloud‑based software development and production systems. Strong writing of clean, maintainable, robust, and performant software. Familiarity with observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, OpenTelemetry). End‑to‑end project delivery in a self‑driven manner. Hands‑on technical leadership, setting technical direction and leading project teams. Understanding of distributed systems. Excellent problem‑solving and debugging skills. Strong mentoring and leadership skills. Experience with on‑call rotations and incident management. Bonus Points For Designing and building observability backends. Contributing to or maintaining open‑source projects. In‑depth knowledge of cloud platform internals. Strong understanding of metrics collection, visualization, and alerting concepts. Compensation & Rewards In Canada, the base salary range is CAD $174,176 – $209,011.
