Abilities Case Specialist - Occupational Health Safety & Wellness

Job Summary

The Abilities Case Specialist as a member of the Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness team is responsible for the case management of employee work related and non-work related disability claims. Work related claims are managed according to Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) legislation and non-work related claims are managed according to the Hospitals of Ontario Disability Insurance Plan (HOODIP). The role includes the adjudication of benefits, the coordination of modified transitional return to work plans and coordination of temporary and permanent workplace accommodations.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Management of employee disability including short and long term claims
  2. Proactively assist employees to maintain their ability to remain at work
  3. Support employees throughout the return to work process
  4. Review of medical documentation and adjudication of benefits
  5. Document and maintain Employee Chart/ Claim file records
  6. Participate in Appeals, Grievances, Arbitrations and any other legal proceedings as required including Human Rights and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Tribunal Hearings.
  7. Coordination of temporary and permanent accommodation
  8. Attend return to work committee and other relevant meetings
  9. Collaboration with relevant stakeholders both internal and external
  10. Support the Attendance @ Work Framework
Qualifications
  1. Baccalaureate degree in nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy or other health-related science discipline required.
  2. Minimum three years disability claims management required.
  3. Experience in a unionized environment, preferably in a health care setting
  4. Registration with relevant college and membership in relevant professional association preferred.
  5. Working knowledge of relevant legislation, e.g. Human Rights Code of Ontario, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety Insurance Act
  6. Experience with NEER cost analysis and management an asset.
  7. Proven ability to effectively design and implement early & safe return to work programs
  8. Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office, Parklane would be an asset
  9. Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  10. Demonstrates excellence in communication skills, both written and verbal
  11. Ability to effectively problem solve
  12. Innovative and adaptability to change management
  13. Commitment to customer service and teamwork
  14. Demonstrates individual leadership skills
