Employee Relations Specialist (Designated Indigenous) Southern Health‑Santé Sud is seeking a dedicated Employee Relations Specialist to coordinate onboarding and support new hires through their probation period. This designated position is available for individuals of Indigenous ancestry (First Nation, Métis, Inuit). The role will collaborate with hiring managers, the HR Department, and Payroll to ensure a seamless, culturally‑safe onboarding experience. Position Overview The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for coordinating onboarding and supporting new hires to Southern Health‑Santé Sud through the completion of the probation period. Working closely with hiring managers, other members of the Human Resources Department, and Payroll, the specialist ensures the flow of information during onboarding. This role requires initiative and independent judgment in prioritizing work and handling unusual matters in line with the mission, vision, and values of Southern Health‑Santé Sud. Experience Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations in a professional capacity. Recent and relevant experience managing human resource functions. Experience in a health care environment preferred. Knowledge and experience with QHR and/or ESP is an asset. Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate) Completion of certificate or diploma program in either Human Resource Management or Business Administration is an asset. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. Certification/License/Registration Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all‑purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000. Qualifications And Skills Must be of Indigenous ancestry (First Nation, Métis, Inuit). Applicants must self‑declare their Indigenous identity. Basic knowledge of applicable legislation (Employment Standards, Human Rights Code, Labour Relations Act in Manitoba) is preferred. Familiarity with Collective Agreements, including interpretation and application. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, effective interacting with internal and external clients/stakeholders in a respectful manner. Client‑focused with a continuous improvement mindset. Adaptable and flexible, willing to adjust behavior and opinions according to best practices and culture. Strong learning orientation; ability to develop self and others. Problem‑solving skills: assess problems, plan solutions, and initiate action adaptively and ethically. Engage with integrity and accountability, adhering to organizational ethics. Initiative, self‑starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Strong organizational skills; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, including a bring‑forward system. Attention to detail and high accuracy in data entry. Respect and promote a culturally diverse population. Maintain confidentiality in all formats. Good work and attendance record. Physical Requirements Functions autonomously on a day‑to‑day basis. No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions. May work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary. Travel to other regional facilities may be required.
