You will use a series of advanced software tools for 3D design and simulation to predict product behavior in space.Role:Subject matter expert in structural and thermal analysis and testingTrainer and informal mentor to less experienced staffResponsibilities:Apply engineering principles to solve complex technical challengesEvaluate opto-mechanical system performances at both the component and system levels via modeling and experimental methodsPerform structural analyses (classical hand calculations and finite element analysis)Static/Quasi-staticDynamic (Modal, Harmonic, Random, ShockThermal DistortionPerform thermal analyses for components in vacuumSteady StateTransientInterpret analysis results and convert them to design suggestionsInvestigate opportunities to limit testing and reduce qualification costs using FEA analysisPrepare analysis reportsSupport integration and testing (during the design and manufacturing phases)Prepare test proceduresConduct tests for vibration, thermal, thermos-vacuum, cryogenic and mass properties and prepare test reportsCollaborate with other engineering disciplines, technologists and assembly personnelPerform other engineering duties as requiredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalentDemonstrated experience with robust mechanical component and packaging design solutions, including vibration analysis and testing, structural and thermal analysisDemonstrated experience with thermal and structural analysis tools, specifically Ansys and NASTRANKnowledge of stress analysis and failure theories, including for ductile and brittle materials, fatigue, stress corrosion cracking and fracture mechanicsOver 8 years of relevant experienceExperience in military/aerospace environment testing would be an assetCAD experience in NX and/or SolidWorks would be an assetExperience with NASGRO would be an assetWe’re a dream team of purpose-driven, collaborative and passionate people, and we are constantly looking for others to join #TeamMDA to ignite new and innovative approaches to problem-solving that push us forward to improve life on and above Earth.Comments/Special Considerations:Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.Benefits statement:MDA Space provides competitive compensation and benefits packages for its employees at all locations.
