What you will do

The Sprinkler Designer will be engaged in the preparation of detailed Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings to assure the efficient and effective placement of our products and systems.

How you will do it

The basic function of this position is to design and layout fire sprinkler systems.

Duties include:

  • Follow job site safety and protocol.
  • Read and interpret construction documents including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Interpret and apply applicable NFPA and OBC standards.
  • Design and layout sprinkler systems.
  • Coordinate sprinkler system piping with structural, architectural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical building components and/or systems.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations.
  • Perform field checks of completed system designs. Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades. Work closely with the district contracting team. Coordinate deliveries of system materials to the job site to meet the optimum POJ date.

What we look for

Required

  • 5 to 10 years of experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Office, HydraCAD, HydraCALC and HydraLIST or equivalent sprinkler design software.
  • Visualizes 3D concepts and solves basic mathematic problems, including geometry and algebra.
  • Proficient in interpreting and applying applicable NFPA standards, and in reading and interpreting construction documents.
  • Familiarity with OBC and FM Global standards.
  • Must be able to work on a construction job site.

Preferred

  • BIM experience using HydraCAD for Revit.
  • Must obtain and retain any licenses that are required by national, state/province, and local codes.
  • Have NICET III certification in Automatic Sprinkler System Layout or successfully achieve within 3 years, and 5 to 10 years of equivalent trade experience.
