Your Opportunity The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides expertise in a dynamic and constantly evolving rehabilitation environment. The position involves consultation and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, including supervising therapy assistants. The OT attends and contributes to weekly rounds through written and/or verbal reports. As an educator, the OT seizes teaching opportunities with patients and their families and participates in admission and discharge planning. The OT assesses and continually monitors patients/residents and clearly communicates concerns with other staff and physicians, working closely with stakeholders in the patient’s rehabilitative journey. Description This OT position supports several units under the Long‑Term Care/Rehabilitation umbrella within St. Michael’s Health Centre, including Post Acute Rehab Program, Palliative Care, Complex Medical, and regular long‑term care units. Clinical duties require expertise in functional assessment, client‑centered case management, and discharge planning. Areas of treatment include orthopedics, acute care, stroke, post‑op hands, lower extremity clinic, splinting, mental health, and cognitive assessments. The OT consults and collaborates with hospital staff and community agencies and supervises therapist‑assistant staff in a hospital‑based rehabilitation setting. Active registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C). Additional Required Qualifications Strong understanding of post‑acute rehabilitation care, including pain management, mobility support, and recovery from surgery or injury. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate care and support to patients and their families. Must be able to concentrate over extended periods of time. Physically able to complete all demanding aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g., walking, standing, bending, lifting, assuming awkward positions, and standing for long durations.
