Safety is the cornerstone of our culture, because if we are not safe, nothing else matters.The Technical Coordinator is responsible for organizing and managing all inbound and outbound waste to ensure efficient and compliant disposal processes. Acting as the first point of contact for customers, this role involves identifying waste types, determining appropriate disposal options, and providing guidance on regulatory requirements.The Richmond Waste Management team is a dedicated group focused on providing safe, efficient, and compliant waste solutions. They work closely with customers to ensure every load is handled properly, offering guidance on regulations and keeping communication clear and consistent. The team takes pride in delivering reliable service, building strong relationships, and supporting SECURE’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.The Technical Coordinator position is a 12‑month fixed term contract based at our Richmond Transfer Station and Sludge Pad. It follows a Monday to Friday schedule, with a standard 40‑hour work week.ResponsibilitiesServe as the first point of contact for customers disposing of waste at the Sludge Facility.Provide customers with detailed information on waste handling, including pricing, disposal options, analytical requirements, and waste tracking/reporting.Work with customers to identify, verify, and schedule waste drop‑offs at the facility.Act as a liaison between the Sludge Facility and customers, ensuring clear communication regarding waste processing and disposal options.Ensure compliance with SECURE’s Occupational Health & Safety Program and actively follow the HSEMS, including JSA and FLHA completion.Be available to support operators with off‑spec/non‑conforming or hard‑to‑manage waste loads, providing mentorship on proper handling procedures such as quarantining and sampling for analysis.Determine appropriate waste analysis requirements based on regulatory and facility needs.Conduct monthly reviews with the Facility Manager regarding financial requirements to ensure alignments with operational and budgetary goals.Collaborate with Operations Supervisors and the Facility Manager to complete month‑end accruals, ensuring all entries are finalized by the required deadline.Escalate concerns to the direct Supervisor as needed.Be accessible and available to assist with after‑hours operational issues.Foster a strong workplace culture, promoting SECURE’s purpose and values.Review and verify compliance with safety procedures and regulatory requirements.Identify and recommend operational improvements for cost‑effective, efficient, and technically sound facility operations.QualificationsGrade 12 diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); a Bachelor’s degree in Science (BSc) is an asset.A valid Class 5 driver’s license.Valid industry safety certifications.Knowledge of British Columbia Ministry of Environment and Parks specifications.Strong leadership abilities, with the capability to mentor and guide employees effectively.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports.High attention to detail and strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.Ability to work effectively in a mentally and physically demanding environment, including long hours when required.Strong decision‑making skills, with the ability to multi‑task and prioritize responsibilities efficiently.Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Experience or training in handling NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material) impacted waste is considered an asset.Ability to quickly learn new systems and train other employees on best practices and procedures.BenefitsCompetitive industry wages and compensation programs.Employer‑paid benefits—health, dental, and more.Health care spending account.Employee wellness program.Employee savings plans.Career progression.Competitive employee referral program.Industry‑leading safety standards.Community investment initiatives https://www.secure-energy.com/community-investment.SECURE is an equal‑opportunity employer.
