Cardiac Exercise Specialist - Peace Arch HospitalWe’re hiring Casual Cardiac Exercise Specialists to join our team at Peace Arch Hospital located in White Rock, BC. Peace Arch Hospital is a 171-bed facility serving the local communities of South Surrey and White Rock. The hospital offers general medicine, surgery, maternity, inpatient and outpatient care and 24/7 Emergency services with over 51,000 visits annually.Salary: CAD $37.89 - $47.31 per hour.OverviewResponsible for coordinating exercise schedules, planning and supervising exercise sessions for cardiac rehabilitation patients at an assigned location; assesses patient medical history and performs diagnostic tests to develop an individual care plan for each patient; leads individual and group exercises, education, counseling and related patient cardiac rehabilitation support activities; acts as a resource through the collegial sharing of information and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the planning, coordination and evaluation of patient exercise services.ResponsibilitiesAssesses and evaluates patient's functional status and risk factors and develops an exercise prescription by reviewing patient information, interviewing the patient to ensure needs/goals are met and collaborating with the health care team.Coordinates exercise schedules for patients; plans and conducts exercise sessions utilizing case management techniques; demonstrates exercise equipment and explains principles of exercise training to ensure patients are exercising to their greatest benefit.Assesses patient's symptoms and responses to activities by monitoring for cardiac arrhythmias, ECG abnormalities, cardiac medications and their potential effect on activity; modifies exercise prescription as appropriate.Responds to patient complications such as fainting or heart attack during exercise by initiating and/or assisting in emergency care, calling 911 and documenting incident per procedures.Counsels patients and their families regarding lifestyle changes, home exercise program guidelines and the value of ongoing activity.Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and community by attending patient conferences and meetings, providing information, acting as a resource and coordinating with team members in planning and evaluating patient services.Reviews patient charts, prepares reports and documents progress in training intensity; maintains statistics on patient assessments and treatments.Participates in in-service education/instruction to staff, interns, students and/or agencies as required.Maintains current knowledge related to cardiac rehabilitation and provides input into program planning.Participates in quality assurance/improvement activities and contributes to program enhancements based on data and feedback.Operates, maintains and cleans related equipment; initiates repairs through appropriate channels as needed.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sports Medicine or Physiology. Two (2) years' recent clinical experience in a cardiac rehabilitation environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Certification with American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) - Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CCEP), current CPR Level C or equivalent and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation.Skills And AbilitiesDemonstrated ability to evaluate and interpret clinical data such as stress tests and ECG.Demonstrated ability to conduct exercise sessions and modify exercise for cardio-pulmonary limitations.Demonstrated ability to recognize and respond to complications and communicate effectively.Demonstrated ability to plan and prescribe aerobic and strength exercise based on assessments.Demonstrated ability to perform patient assessment and program planning.Demonstrated ability to provide staff and patient education and to problem-solve.Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize work and operate related equipment and software.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.About Fraser HealthFraser Health is the heart of health care for over two million people in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley in British Columbia.
