Position: CONTRACT COUNSELLOR- TRAUMA COUNSELLING
Location: White Rock/ South Surrey (ON-SITE AND REMOTE)
Hours: Based on billing
We are seeking a Contract Counsellor to provide clinical counselling support to women under our Fee for Service Counselling stream. This position offers the flexibility to determine your own schedule, work remotely or at one of our sites. Clinical supervision may be available.

Description of position:
The Contract Counsellor provides direct counselling to those who self-identify as women, offering EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and/or other approved trauma-focused approaches under the Fee for Service stream of service. Contract Counsellors are responsible for handling their own payroll deductions, including income tax, CPP, Employment Insurance and WorkSafe BC premiums.
Accountable to: Manager of Trauma and Men’s Counselling.
General Responsibilities:
- Ensures health and safety of all clients while working with them.
- Adheres to relevant Council on Accreditation standards.
- Adheres to Sources policies and procedures and the Code of Ethics.
- Ensures rights and dignity of clients is maintained.
- Maintains privacy and confidentiality of clients and client files.
- Engage in ongoing learning and professional development related to Indigenous histories, cultures and perspectives and applying this knowledge to your work.
- Creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment within the organization, and addressing any instances of discrimination, harassment, or other forms of harmful behaviour that don’t support the principals of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belongingness.
- Maintain First Aid and CPR training equivalent to WCB Level One if required.
Program Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide individual counselling (including assessment) to those who identify as women experiencing interpersonal violence, sexual assault, or historical abuse.
- Incorporate the central aspects of trauma counselling, emphasizing safety, containment, and trauma processing.
- Provide resources and referrals and related support services.
- Incorporate Feedback Informed Training and supervision into the therapy practice.
- Maintain up-to-date files and documentation on OWL and meet organization accreditation standards for Council on Accreditation (COA).
- Attend to and complete all administrative (billing) tasks.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Child, Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
- Knowledge of relevant community resources, programs, and services.
- Understanding of poverty-related issues and ability to handle sensitive client concerns with tact and non-judgment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and other data management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to use online communication platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to take initiative, prioritize urgent tasks, and work independently.
- Ability to handle potentially difficult and stressful situations with proven crisis resolution skills.
Qualifications
Mandatory:
- Master's degree in psychology, Counselling Psychology.
- Police background check.
- Training in therapeutic modalities (SE, EMDR, IFS, Motivational Interviewing etc.).
- Two years’ experience with trauma, depression, and/or anxiety.
- Registration with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
- Liability Insurance at a minimum of $200,000 per occurrence.
Preferred:
- Passionate about working with individuals and helping them overcome challenges.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Ability to utilize Office suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OWL.
- Ability to effectively communicate professionally, verbally and in written English.
- San’yas Training and Indigenous approaches are an asset.
- Qualification for CVAP, ICBC, and FNHA are an asset.
Start Date: March 1, 2025
Compensation: $65.00 /hour (session billing is based on 1.25 hours/session)
Contract Counsellors are responsible for handling their own payroll deductions, including income tax, CPP, Employment Insurance and WorkSafe BC premiums.
