Position Summary The Labour Relations Specialist is a trusted contact for hospital leaders, providing expert guidance on labour and employee relations. Reporting to the Manager, Labour and Employee Relations, this role delivers proactive support on grievances, collective bargaining, investigations, and union relations. As part of the Human Resources team, the Labour Relations Specialist uses independent judgment to ensure consistent, effective practices across the organization, building strong relationships and fostering a positive workplace. Duties Builds and manages the employer-union relationship, through facilitation and consultation Acts as an expert on collective agreements and bargaining history Coaches managers on labour relations skills, including discipline, grievances, and collective agreement administration Leads collective bargaining with support from the Manager, Labour Relations; assists with research and post-bargaining rollout Partners with Human Resources and Labour Relations teams to implement corporate initiatives Ensures consistent application of collective agreements Facilitates resolution of employee conflicts and harassment‑free workplace issues Leads investigations as delegated by the Manager, Labour Relations Chairs Labour Management meetings and participates in Health & Safety Committee meetings Represents hospital at arbitrations, as required Develops and maintains thorough knowledge of assigned bargaining unit Provides labour relations and HR advice to management teams Supports corporate HR initiatives and improved employee relations Represents Labour Relations on internal and external committee Participates in organizational restructuring and downsizing processes Contributes to policy review, revision and implementation Qualifications Undergraduate degree specializing in Human Resources or Industrial Relations or a related area of study. Must have a minimum of 3 years broad and progressive labour relations experience preferably within a multi‑union environment (CUPE, ONA, OPSEU). A combination of education and experience deemed to be equivalent may be considered. Active participation in collective bargaining (as a lead of the bargaining or bargaining support team) and contract administration. Knowledge and experience of Human Resources. Experience working in a diverse and decentralized organization, ideally in the hospital or public sector. Experience in dealing with significant organizational change. Thorough knowledge of hospital policies, rules, regulations and employment related legislation. Thorough knowledge of principles of labour relations and contract administration. Thorough knowledge of principles of diversity in the workplace. Thorough knowledge of principles of dispute resolution and problem solving. Thorough knowledge of investigation under the Violence in the Workplace (Bill 168) Good knowledge of arbitral jurisprudence related to workplace issues. Good knowledge of principles of interest‑based bargaining. Ability to exercise judgement and initiative working within scope of authority. Excellent planning, prioritization and organization skills to ensure tasks are completed. Visioning and Strategic Thinking. CHRP or CHRL designation is considered an asset. English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
