As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project, and we are hiring for hundreds of roles. The GO Expansion scope includes new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications, digital systems, maintenance, and more.
Objective
As a member of the Project Core Team, the Junior Project Planner will contribute to support the scheduling teams and provide and liaise with the Finance team for internal and external reporting. Previous experience managing planning teams in a multi-project context and providing reporting is required.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining the project/program schedule using best practices such as: reflecting the project execution strategy in the schedule, capturing the entire scope of work, setting reasonable activity durations, logically sequencing and linking all activities, minimizing date constraints, avoiding dangling activities, ensuring the critical path makes sense, assigning resources to all activities, checking the schedule for reasonable float, verifying the resource plan, running a schedule risk analysis, and setting the schedule baseline.
- Manage efficiently planning deliverable issuance.
- Facilitate the synchronization and communication of internal stakeholders.
- Report proactively on schedule progress to various stakeholders (customer, core team, corporate).
Main Responsibilities:
- Build the project schedule based on internal standard WBS, contractual targets, and data provided by all stakeholders.
- Contribute with the Finance Project Manager to Earned Value Management.
- Propose the project baseline and ensure its acceptance (internally and by the Customer).
- Ensure the consistency of all internal and external Stakeholder commitments and manage the schedules interfaces.
- Perform schedule analysis and trade-offs to address identified gaps or schedule issues.
- Organize and lead periodic project schedule sessions.
- Provide timely updated schedule situations highlighting gaps between the actual and the baseline.
- Focus on early identification of potential delays (critical paths), including status on risks and margin related to schedule.
- Prepare schedule and progress reports for Customer, Lead Unit, or Partners.
- Provide support to Project Core Team on all issues related to project schedules.
- Apply the Project Scheduling Process.
- Promote time management practices awareness in the project team.
- Contribute to the return of experience (REX) and improvements, sharing best practices and schedule templates.
Performance Measurements in Contract or Program Execution:
- Baseline approved (internally and by the Customer).
- Regular and consistent scheduling updates with potential delays analysis.
- Delivery on-time delivery of KPIs (OTD, Gate Reviews GO on time, sales, cash, etc.) and planning documents.
- Standard metrics measuring schedule robustness (PSI - Project Schedule Integrity).
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience:
- 4 years' experience as PrPM / SSM / Project Development Planning Manager / Reporting Manager.
- Project management and industrial background.
- Experience in complex projects (Design-build).
- Familiarity with internal processes (Tenders, Projects, Engineering, Industrial, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Quality, and their interfaces).
- Experience with resource-loaded schedules (material, manpower, etc.), Schedule of Values (SOV), and Earned Value Management (EVM).
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 and MS-Project software is mandatory.
- Advanced MS Office proficiency, particularly in MS-Excel.
- Desirable overall knowledge of railway products and systems.
- Ability to manage schedules (detailed execution and customer schedules), simulations, various scenarios, and changing project goals.
- Forensic planning skills.
- Rigorous, structured, and anticipatory mindset.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, resilience, and teamwork spirit.
- Conflict management and multitasking abilities.
- Proactive in proposing solutions and able to challenge the project team.
- Comfortable in an international and multi-cultural environment.
