Sexual Health and Blood Borne Infections Nurse Job Type: Full‑time Location: Surrey, B.C. Job Summary The Sexual Health and Blood Borne Infections (SHBBI) Nurse works as part of a multidisciplinary team and is responsible for coordinating and providing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation services for Fraser Health clients who are at risk of sexually transmitted or blood borne infections such as HIV, Hepatitis C and other associated health conditions. This role supports clients living with HIV through an integrated case management approach, utilizing outreach and harm reduction principles, to engage and retain clients in care. The nurse will also provide sexual health and youth clinical services, sexual health promotion and prevention activities in the community, and conduct case investigation, follow‑up and contact tracing for reportable communicable diseases. Salary The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 – $59.52 per hour. Utilize outreach approaches to engage at‑risk populations. Develop working relationships with internal and external partners, including physicians, acute and primary care centres, to facilitate seamless service for people affected by HIV, Hepatitis C and related health concerns. Inform development of HIV, Hepatitis C and sexual health services using best‑practice literature, research and local information. Provide harm‑reduction education, counselling and support to access services for at‑risk populations. Apply integrated case‑management with other services and community partners to ensure culturally sensitive, relevant and efficient care for clients affected by HIV and Hepatitis C. Use social determinants of health framework to identify health issues, behaviours, needs, barriers and challenges; collaborate in team setting to develop creative strategies. Contribute to community planning for HIV and Hepatitis C services and act as a Public Health Nursing resource by sharing information and best practices, participating in train‑the‑trainer activities and assisting protocol development. Immunize children and adults against vaccine‑preventable diseases. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience: Current practising registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Graduation from an approved school of nursing including a public health nursing component. Certification in Reproductive Health (STIs) with BCCNM and at least two (2) years of recent experience in public health/communicable disease management, including HIV testing and certified contraceptive management nursing practices (or equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience). Valid BC Driver's Licence and personal vehicle for business use. Skills & Abilities Professional and effective communication with various stakeholders. Broad knowledge of HIV, STI and communicable disease management. Broad knowledge of immunisation and related reactions and contraindications. Ability to administer injections and recognise adverse reactions. Application of health promotion, community development and population health principles (planning initiatives, partnership building, group facilitation, health education, social marketing, use of local media and communication systems). Ability to work with culturally diverse and vulnerable populations, including LGBT2SQQ+ persons, substance‑using individuals and those with mental health concerns. Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice. Comprehensive knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety and community resources. Ability to operate related equipment. Basic computer literacy for client care information system, word processing, spreadsheets, internet and email. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
