Our aerial spraying systems help farmers target weeds with surgical precision, reducing chemical use and increasing yields. We’re a fast‑moving, impact‑driven team looking for people who want to help build the future of farming. The External Pilot (EP) is responsible for the safe and precise operation of Precision AI’s large‑scale UAV spraying systems during field missions. As the Pilot in Command (PIC) for external flight operations, you’ll play a hands‑on role in every mission, maintaining situational awareness, executing flight plans, and stepping in at a moment’s notice to manually control the aircraft. This position is based in Calgary, AB, with a flexible hybrid schedule that includes occasional office work, remote coordination, and frequent travel to Strathmore, AB for spray operations and testing. The role requires both technical proficiency and strong teamwork, working closely with the Flight Operations Manager and broader flight team to ensure mission success and safety. In addition to regular travel around Alberta for spray operations, you will complete training and may do some spray operations in the US. Please plan on March through September being heavily travel months. Key Responsibilities Flight Operations Serve as Pilot in Command (External Pilot) during spray missions and test flights Operate UAVs manually using line‑of‑sight visual control — not reliant on FPV Maintain readiness to take over manual control at any time during autonomous or semi‑autonomous operations Execute precision maneuvers and follow all flight and safety protocols during operations Collaborate with GCS Operator, Crew Chiefs, and additional team members to ensure smooth mission flow Equipment & Readiness Conduct pre‑ and post‑flight inspections, identifying and reporting potential issues Support maintenance and ground crew with setup, calibration, and teardown of UAV systems Assist with the integration and testing of new UAV configurations and payloads Team Collaboration & Communication Work closely with the Flight Operations Manager and internal teams to maintain alignment on mission objectives Communicate field performance feedback and recommend improvements for flight procedures or training Help foster a strong team dynamic built on trust, reliability, and clear communication Relevant Experience (Ideal Candidate Background) Proven experience as a Pilot in Command (PIC) for large‑scale RC, fixed‑wing, or multirotor aircraft At least 500 hours on large‑scale RC (80+ inches) or similar Strong manual piloting ability with comfort operating via line of sight only (not FPV) Experience with large RC aircraft (the larger the better), including knowledge of controller types, response speeds, and flight dynamics Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and manual control in dynamic, real‑world environments Exposure to UAV operations, agricultural spraying, or industrial flight environments is a plus What You Bring Hands‑on Flight Experience: Skilled at manual drone or RC flight; confident taking control at a moment’s notice Technical Aptitude: Understanding of UAV systems, telemetry, and troubleshooting Adaptability: Comfortable traveling frequently and working in changing outdoor environments Team Orientation: Values collaboration and clear communication with teammates and leadership Mindset: Calm under pressure, eager to learn, and driven by precision and safety Bonus Points Video or documentation of prior RC flight experience (YouTube footage or similar) Experience with fixed‑wing RC models or autonomous aircraft integration Background in agriculture, field operations, or other outdoor technical work Not Sure You Meet Every Requirement? Research shows that some candidates, especially women, under‑represented groups, and career changers, are less likely to apply for a role unless they meet 100% of the listed qualifications. At Precision AI, we believe the right person can grow into the role, and we value potential as much as experience. If you’re excited about our mission and think you could contribute, we encourage you to apply, even if you don’t check every single box.
