The Impact You Will Make Reporting to the Senior Project Technical Advisor, SRHR, the Health & Nutrition Advisor provides technical leadership for Save the Children Canada’s Health & Nutrition portfolio, spanning both development and humanitarian programming. The role leads donor engagement, supports proposal development with Country Offices, and drives evidence-based, gender-transformative approaches. The Advisor also represents the organization within the Nutrition sector and the broader Save the Children network, advancing strategic priorities and policy advocacy efforts in Canada and internationally. Responsibilities Include (but Are Not Limited To) Lead pre-positioning and new opportunity generation from institutional (largely GAC) and private sources and assessment for funding Health & Nutrition programs in alignment to global and strategic plan and growth targets. Assist on proposal development and technical oversight, leveraging technical expertise and project learnings from Save the Children health programs with special focus on the Nutrition sector. Cultivate and strengthen relationships with key funders/donors, research institutes, peer NGO agencies, partners, and sector thought leaders in the Nutrition sector. Maintain line of sight on technical quality at the country level through effective relationships with Regional and Country offices, enabling timely provision of technical input and oversight. Manage and acquire strategic partnerships with research and technical partners in Nutrition. Represent on relevant Technical Working Groups within Canada and within Save the Children, in leadership and/or support roles. Provide support to the leadership and delivery of Save the Children Common Approaches in the area of Health & Nutrition. Support the development and execution of advocacy strategy to influence policy changes and resource mobilization, including producing high quality thought leadership materials and leading positioning activities such as representation at industry panels, presentations to donors, participation in external practitioner networks, and global Working Groups. Support the production of high-quality thought leadership materials and other products to engage the public on Nutrition initiatives. Lead the design, testing, and evaluation of innovations to advance gender-transformative and adolescent-friendly Health & Nutrition programming. Share learnings and evidence generated into succinct and compelling programmatic guidance and thought leadership for internal and external consumption. Monitor developments in the sector and field to develop and refine program models and identify new research opportunities. Co-lead program impact initiatives on Health & Nutrition with the objective of generating compelling evidence on the organization’s Health & Nutrition portfolio, informing quality program design and implementation as well as innovations and best practice. Share results, evidence and learnings of Save the Children Common Approaches implementation with key internal and external stakeholders. Qualifications Include (but Are Not Limited To) Post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent experience. Minimum 5-7 years of experience in International Development, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO/INGO), or other not-for-profit sectors is required. Advanced knowledge of the global health and nutrition policy, partner and donor landscape in Canada, including engaging directly with GAC. Proven experience with gender-transformative programming in various related sub-thematic areas such as Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, etc. Demonstrated proficiency in proposal development, with prior experience with GAC; knowledge of GAC policies and procedures; knowledge of Results-Based Management (RBM) approach. Strong knowledge and understanding of gender equality principles and practices. Demonstrated thought leadership expertise such as contributions to academic journals, books, articles; speaking engagements, leading conference presentations and panels. Advanced communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills for diverse audiences to build strong working relationships across cultural and organizational settings, both internally and externally. French/Spanish/Arabic language skills is an asset. Demonstrated project management experience for task execution of assigned objectives supported by proficiency with MS Office tools and relevant technologies. Ability to work under pressure within tight timelines to achieve SCC objectives. Displays analytical and problem-solving skills to support initiatives with demonstrated adaptability to support change management for successful task implementation. Applies judgment and makes sound decisions that are accountable, justifiable, and in adherence to policies and procedures. Considers organizational strategy and thinks creatively to support innovative initiatives and collaborations that deliver benefits for the children and families we serve. Ability to occasionally travel locally, nationally and internationally (less than 10%) as required.
