The Community Outreach Assessment and Support Team (COAST) is a cross-ministerial program jointly funded by Recovery Alberta, GOA's Disability Services and GOA's Children and Family Services. COAST is the product of an initiative to enhance the community’s capacity to meet the needs of children, youth and adults who have an intellectual disability and/or neurodevelopmental disorder as well as co-occurring complex mental health challenges/behavioural disorders. A Psychologist I will work as part of this multidisciplinary team, providing advanced assessment, diagnostics, treatment, case coordination, crisis intervention and consultation to families and supports of individuals with developmental disabilities. The Psychologist I will address a variety of presenting difficulties, diagnoses and life situations of adults and their families. This individual is also expected to show leadership in terms of program development, administrative responsibilities, education initiatives, and/or in conducting and facilitating research within the professional service or program. Case management is required in this position. This is a Recovery Alberta position. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Psychologist I, you will work with or within teams to provide a range of standard level psychology services to patients and their families within the established standards, directives, and policies for the work environment. Your services may include psychological screening and/or assessment, diagnosis, interventions, rehabilitation, prevention and promotion, as well as educational activities. You will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals in planning and implementing services that align with best practices and ethical and professional standards. You will provide input to the interprofessional team related to psychological factors, barriers and dynamics that influence client treatment planning, participation, outcomes and team functioning, and consult and collaborate with teams and community services. Your duties may also include providing supervision to psychometrists, provisional psychologists and/or masters level psychology students, and providing input into program, policy and/or procedure development in addition to participating in formal research initiatives.
Master's degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from an accredited university program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).
Experience working with intellectual disability, neurodevelopmental disorders, learning disabilities and co-occurring complex mental health diagnoses. Familiarity with the Government of Alberta's Complex Service Needs mandate and eligibility criteria. Experience adapting clinical modalities to support individuals with complex needs and disabilities. Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, facilitating client care conferences, working in community settings and ability to provide outreach services to clientele across the Edmonton zone. Utilizing a trauma-informed approach and integrating a holistic wellness-based approach to recovery goals. Experience managing a caseload while working in an interdisciplinary setting. Experience managing a caseload while collaborating in an interdisciplinary setting. It is important to have the ability to adapt your practice to support individuals across the lifespan. NVCI training and Basic Life Support training are required for this role. A vehicle is also a requirement.
Preferable experience includes a history of supporting individuals who are connected to Disability Services (Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program + Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program) and Childrens and Family Services (CFS). This includes understanding of the roles of a caseworker from these areas. Familiarity with Connect Care system, AHS resources and Recovery Alberta programs in the Edmonton zone.
