Controller - Finance & Shared Services

The role of Financial Controller involves working collaboratively with the FP&A team to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of finance-related tasks. This position works closely with Canadian Operations and WBS (Weir Business Solutions).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement and maintain effective controls, conducting regular testing on a rolling schedule.
  • Lead internal and external audits for Weir Minerals.
  • Oversee statutory reporting requirements.
  • Review and approve work completed by WBS, ensuring timely deliverables.
  • Maintain a productive finance environment with open communication and transparency.
  • Perform complex accounting tasks requiring analytical skills and business acumen.
  • Seek feedback from stakeholders, implement process improvements.
  • Monitor and improve performance against finance lean scorecard goals.
  • Contribute to quarterly forecasts, yearly budgets, and related analyses.
  • Coordinate financial statement preparation, consolidation, and analysis within established deadlines.
  • Complete monthly close and reporting requirements, including flash reports and Cognos/TM1 updates.
  • Interpret financial reports, comparing actual to projected results and explaining variances.
  • Prepare financial analysis projects and interpret results as required.
  • Conduct special analytical studies, such as trend identification and control system evaluation.
  • Ensure accurate account reconciliations, reviewing key accounts and taking necessary actions prior to month-end.
  • Manage tax-related matters, utilizing third-party experts when necessary.
  • Coordinate accounting matters with other departments, locations, and divisions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Commerce, plus a minimum of eight years of relevant experience.
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified General Accountant (CGA), or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • Experience in cost and general accounting in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
Preferred Skills:
  • Strong analytical skills and interest in understanding financial data.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel and Word software.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP is essential.
  • Effective written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills are crucial.
  • Self-motivation, organization, and attention to detail are must-haves.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills are valuable assets.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, and confidentiality in all matters.
