Employment Opportunity Instructors, Practical Nursing Program Fixed Contract Hybrid About FNTI (First Nations Technical Institute) Since establishment in 1985, over 4000 students have graduated successfully from FNTI with certificates, diplomas and degrees, granted in partnership with Ontario’s Colleges and Universities. An Indigenous post-secondary institution, FNTI offers programs targeted at Indigenous learners across a wide range of post-secondary disciplines including aviation, health, business, and public administration. FNTI delivers programming locally through its main campus in Tyendinaga on Ontario’s beautiful Bay of Quinte, as well as in numerous community locations throughout Ontario. Description We would like to welcome interested applicants to apply to future contract opportunities in our Practical Nursing (PN) program instructor pool. Learners prepare for a career in this in-demand health field in this 5 day per week, in-person training. Training includes theory, labs, and on-site clinical training in varied settings at various facilities. Training culminates with a seven-week, pre-graduate placement experience working with a registered practical nurse. Graduates are sought after all over the world working independently or as part of a healthcare team. Instructors at FNTI will plan, facilitate and assess curriculum delivered through various delivery models and locations. Instructors are contracted for each delivery session, which consists of planning, professional development, delivery, and assessment/evaluation of student progress and grading. Responsibilities Prepare, instruct, and deliver courses in a cultural framework, while adhering to FNTI’s “braided healing with learning” approach Incorporate Indigenous knowledges, ways of knowing/being, and Indigenous worldview and ensure quality assurance while planning and developing appropriate lessons, teachings and practices for classroom facilitation/conversations and methodologies to address the learning outcomes Provide academic and cultural supports to learners, while evaluating learner progress/achievement Support all learning outcomes (vocational, course and Indigenous) and design appropriate teaching methodologies for meeting those learning outcomes Support the strategic priorities of the institute while adhering to the Values, Mission and Vision Statement. Provide support and mentorship to learners outside of the scheduled class times as required Facilitate space for inclusion of medicines and traditional healing practices to our learners during each course Collaborate with the Cultural Advisor to provide ceremonies, traditional teachings that are appropriate to meeting the Indigenous learning outcomes and ensure the cultural framework is followed (opening and closings, smudging, circles, drumming and singing and cultural practices) Ensure Indigenous Pedagogy and Andragogy practices are implemented and Adult Learning Principles are followed in the classroom wherever possible Attend training, seminars and meetings are required Qualifications Required Registered member of the College of Nurses of Ontario, with at least a BScN and in good standing, (or equivalent): RN. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a health care environment Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
