Director of Quality Engineering

SUMMARY
We are having an open vacancy and seeking a highly skilled and experienced Quality Engineering Manager to oversee and manage quality engineering operations within our manufacturing operations. The Quality Engineering Manager will play a critical role in ensuring that our products meet or exceed customer expectations, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
The Quality Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and managing Vexos’ Quality Engineering and support team. Operating within a high-mix, on demand EMS production environment, the Quality Engineering Manager will manage daily functions of the Quality Engineering and support team, and assure and advocate for quality materials, processes and products.
The Quality Engineering Manager acts as a direct customer quality support contact for Vexos customers and participates internally at Vexos, with multifunctional teams, and externally, with suppliers, in quality planning, risk assessment, corrective, preventive, problem-solving and improvement activities, all to ensure compliance with requirements and a high level of customer satisfaction.
This position reports directly to the VP, Global Quality.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead and manage a team of quality engineering and technologist staff, providing direction on daily operations, guidance, training, and performance feedback as needed.
- Act as a primary point of contact for customer quality inquiries, complaints, and audits, ensuring timely resolution and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee the investigations of complaints and non-conformances to ensure that appropriate and effective corrective actions and preventive actions are implemented and appropriately reported to our customers as required.
- Establish and enforce quality control processes and procedures across all stages of the manufacturing process, from incoming materials inspection to final product testing and shipment.
- Drive product & process quality improvement within the facility, with the objective of customer satisfaction through reduction in external and internal failures.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, supply chain, and customer service, to resolve quality-related issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify critical product quality requirements for new product introductions and potential risk areas. Ensure appropriate quality processes and controls are in place. Collaborate with cross-functional staff to ensure quality plans are realized.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective and preventive actions to address quality issues and non-conformances.
- Analyze quality data and metrics to track performance trends, identify root causes of defects or failures, and implement data-driven solutions to optimize processes and enhance product quality.
- Provide support in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive and effective quality management system (QMS) that satisfies customer, regulatory/ISO and Vexos requirements.
- Stay informed about industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends in quality management, and proactively incorporate relevant changes into the QMS.
- Champion a culture of quality excellence and continuous improvement throughout the organization, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
- Represent Vexos Markham on quality matters with our customers as required.
- Facilitate training and education of Vexos team members and stakeholders in quality awareness, quality improvement methodologies and in technical quality requirements (such as IPC acceptance).
- Participate in Vexos Quality initiatives and development projects.
- Facilitate QC (Quality Control) – QA (Quality Assurance) collaboration and support.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., Six Sigma, ASQ Certified Quality Engineering Manager) preferred.
- Six Sigma Certification / ASQ CQE certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a quality engineering management/supervisory/leadership role within the EMS industry or a similar manufacturing environment, with a demonstrated track record of success.
- Strong knowledge of quality management principles, methodologies, and tools, including statistical process control (SPC), root cause analysis, and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
- Familiarity with ISO relevant quality standards and regulations, such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100D. Internal auditor certification preferred.
- Familiarity with PPAP, AS9102 FAIR, APQP and other customer-specific requirements (e.g., automotive, medical, aerospace).
- Strong working knowledge of IPC-A-610 requirements. Certification preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Analytical mindset with a keen attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex data sets, identify patterns and trends, and derive actionable insights to drive process improvements.
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, required.
- Open minded, collaborative and team-oriented attitude, analytical problem-solving capabilities to optimize team capabilities.
- Self-driven, independent and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks based on demand.
- Advanced Computer skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of programs. Data analytics skills.
- Knowledge in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma would be an asset.
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to prepare and represent the organization externally.
- Strong interpersonal and organization skills.
LOCATION
The position location is based in Markham, Ontario facilities (Building A at 195 Royal Crest Court and/or Building B at 3930 14th Avenue). Incumbent must be open to working at both facilities as business and operational needs dictate.
WORK HOURS
Regular office hours: 8:30AM - 5:00PM. Flexible work schedule arrangement option available.
