OverviewHealth and Safety Advisor at Scarborough Transit Connect (STC). STC is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rails and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will extend TTC Line 2 into Scarborough to improve travel times and access to jobs, schools and other key destinations.As part of this project, we are currently looking for a Health and Safety Advisor to join our team.What You Will DoAdminister the EHS Program.Promote the highest level of safety throughout the project.Provide direction and support for managers, supervisors, sub-contractors regarding their responsibilities.Maintain a positive and inclusive safety culture.Ensure all workplace parties fulfill their responsibilities for the EHS program.Conduct safety orientation for workers, owners and clients. Participate in pre-planning stages of work.Assist in the management of workers’ compensation claims.Conduct workplace safety audits and inspections.Walk project site with workers, owners, and other stakeholders, safety representatives to assess safety and address deficiencies.Conduct hazard assessments and control activities, providing coaching when necessary.Investigate accidents and incidents and produce timely investigation reports.Experience You Will Bring5 years’ experience in construction Health and Safety.Experience in preparing for COR or ISO 45001 audits.Health and safety certification such as National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Gold Seal Certificate (GSC), or a graduate/undergraduate degree or diploma in a related field, or equivalent.Good working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Workers’ Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) policies.Experience as a liaison with external parties such as government inspectors, subcontractors, and the general public.Experience co-chairing a Joint Health and Safety Committee.Experience presenting project orientations and site-specific orientations for small and large groups.Experience in the preparation and review of policies and procedures.Ability to procure and manage safety supplies.Experience in investigating workplace incidents.Ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).Detailed understanding of corporate and industry practices and their impact on project activities.Experience across all stages of a project lifecycle within complex infrastructure projects is desirable.Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.Proven experience in priority setting, multitasking, and working with minimal direct supervision.Ability to demonstrate initiative, judgment, and proactivity.High degree of organizational skills.Ability to travel to sites and be mobile for projects.Valid G driver’s license.Why Join Us?Competitive pay, comprehensive health and dental benefits, and RRSP matching plans.The opportunity to work on one of the most exciting rail projects in Toronto.A wide array of learning and development opportunities.A work environment focused on health and safety.EEO Statement: STC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of citizenship, race, place of origin, ethnic origin, color, ancestry, disability, age, creed, sex/pregnancy, family status, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and record of offences.When we collect your personal information as part of a job application or offer of employment, we do so in accordance with industry standards and best practices and in compliance with applicable privacy laws.
