The Opportunity RVS invites applications for two continuing full‑time (30 hrs/wk) Learning Assistant position(s) starting immediately at Ralph McCall School. Ralph McCall School is located in the City of Airdrie and serves students from grades K‑5. The Learning Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the diverse needs of learners within the classroom, school, and community settings throughout Rocky View Schools. Responsibilities Provides assistance to students as identified in their individualized plans, including those who require additional supports such as personal care, medical care, and safety needs. Implements and reinforces strategies as directed by the teacher and identified in the student’s Personalized Learning Plan (PLP), Individualized Program Plan (IPP), Behaviour Support Plan (BSP), safety plan, and medical plan. Records observations and other data on behavioral challenges to support positive behavior strategies. Participates in collaborative planning meetings for IPP or SSP as requested. Provides assistance with preparation of individualized program materials under the direction of the classroom teacher or student support teacher. Actively promotes student learning and independence. Facilitates interaction among students with special needs and their peers. Respects confidentiality and maintains privacy of information related to students and personnel. Supports students with routine personal care activities such as toileting, movement, personal hygiene, eating, drinking, and feeding. Assists in exercising, adaptive physical education, range of motion programs, and fine and gross motor skills development as directed by a specialist and monitored by a teacher. Supports students’ medical needs as directed, including assisting with transfers and managing tracheotomy needs, oxygen, catheterization, and administration of prescription medication. Education / Experience Educational Assistant Certificate, or a certificate/diploma in a related field. Training in preventative / de‑escalating behaviour, or willingness to become certified. Minimum one (1) year experience working with students with challenging behaviour and applying positive behaviour supports is considered an asset. CPR / First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered. Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of complex and sensitive issues professionally and in a timely manner. Demonstrated ability to carry out the plans and directions of teaching staff to assist students. Ability to build and maintain rapport with students and staff. Ability to adapt to dynamic situations while successfully managing a high level of stress. Ability to work effectively in collaborative team settings. Excellent multi‑tasking, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills. Working knowledge of child development. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web‑based applications. Benefits 6% vacation pay.
