Overview The Brain and Mental Health Program is inclusive of programs and services focused on neuroscience, mental health conditions, inter-professional practice and a commitment to system capacity building through innovative partnerships with hospital and community organizations. The Neuroscience and Trauma program is seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager to provide leadership to the inpatient unit, 5C, supporting the Divisions of Neurology and Neurosurgery. These combined services provide highly specialized care to patients with complex neurological, neurosurgical and trauma related conditions. The inter-professional team provides care in a fast paced and dynamic inpatient and outpatient environment, providing highly specialized care and support to patients and their families. A focus on high quality, evidence-based care, and the Divisions’ academic and research mandates are key priorities of every leader of the portfolio. Responsibilities Provide program leadership and facilitate the design and coordination of a comprehensive range of high-quality clinical activities, ensuring effective and appropriate use of resources. Act as a leader and role model and facilitate excellence in inter-professional communication between members of the team, hospital partners and stakeholders. Lead and support change management and team development initiatives. Manage aspects of recruitment, performance management and professional development of staff to ensure resources and skill levels are in place to meet program needs; align staff development with the program need and hospital strategic plan. Respond and plan for all staffing needs to manage daily demand and patient flow. Monitor and manage performance indicators, unit performance and provide leadership in continually improving care delivery and processes. Support and facilitate the resolution of complex and / or sensitive patient and family concerns. Review and monitor the financial reports with the Clinical Director to trend the operational performance of the unit. Design and implement mitigation strategies to address variance to plan and increase efficiencies. Monitor and provide input to the Clinical Director and Finance on the operating plan and collaborate in the development of the portfolio’s annual operating plan, issues and risk. Provide leadership in the analysis and management of a comprehensive operating plan that demonstrates a balance between fiscal responsibility and optimal patient care. Identify opportunities for improved efficiency regarding the utilization of resources. Work collaboratively with other Managers to develop care pathways that improve patient flow across the hospital. Ensure that care complies with statutory regulations and accreditation guidelines. Qualifications Baccalaureate degree in a health-related field and membership in good standing with a regulated healthcare professional program and / or designated regulatory college. Master’s degree in a health-related or business-related field (or evidence of working towards) is preferred. Three to five years of leadership experience in a specialized inpatient hospital environment is preferred. Content expertise within neuroscience or any critical care environment is preferred. Understanding of an integrated clinical, academic and research environment. Ability to work in a data and measurement-based performance improvement context. Demonstrated experience as an effective change agent. Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated experience in people management skills. Ability to communicate, collaborate and engage constructively with others. Resilience in a range of complex and demanding situations. Knowledge of budgeting processes and ability to analyze fiscal and patient care data is an asset. Commitment to the professional and organizational vision as it pertains to clinical practice and patient care. Enthusiasm and interest in working in a fast-paced, dynamic hospital environment.
