With a strong foundation within the community and a focus on connection, unity, and compassion, the organization provides a vital link for youth and families in the province of Manitoba.Position SummaryYouth Care Practitioners (YCP) in each Healing Home program operated by The Link: Youth and Family Supports report to the Program Supervisor of the Healing Home and are responsible for implementing all aspects of the day-to-day functioning of the program. The YCP is expected to provide ongoing, culturally sensitive care while adhering to organizational policies and procedures. A major focus of their work with young people is to be a positive role model at all times and to intervene purposefully into the young people's daily life events in a manner which will help the young person reach the agreed upon goals of their time within the program. Youth Care Practitioners work from a needs-based, trauma informed, relational child and youth care approach as per the organization expectations and standards.Primary ResponsibilitiesDuties and responsibilities of the Youth Care PractitionerBe aware of the whereabouts of the youth at all times as per program dictates and policiesInteract with youth in a manner designed to help them achieve their goalsFacilitate wake-up, bed-time and other daily routinesDevelop, manage, facilitate and direct all daily program activitiesTransport youth to appointments (medical and others) and any activities as requiredProvide direction, support and participation in daily chores or tasks with the youthDevelop and implement household routines in conjunction with the Program SupervisorRecord keeping and report writing as requiredDistribute and tracks medications as outlined by Provincial Licensing Standardsprovide first aid interventions as requiredObserves, evaluates and records daily life events according to the program recording proceduresWork as a team to ensure consistency in the youth's experiences, daily goals and care planMeal planning, grocery shopping, cooking and cleaningMaintenance and cleaning of the home, indoors and outdoorsEnsuring all health and safety standards are being metOther duties as assignedQualificationsPost-secondary education or a combination of education, work experience and lived experience may be consideredExperience working with vulnerable youthHave read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action and can communicate the calls relating to Media and ReconciliationKnowledge of trauma and resilience informed careStrong relationship building skills and experience in de-escalationExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsEmergency First Aid and CPR Level CSatisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check, all done within the last 3 monthsASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) preferredDe-escalation training preferredMental Health First Aid & Safe Talk will be considered an assetKnowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and beliefs will be considered an assetAccommodations are available for applicants with disabilities upon request.
