Full Stack Software Engineer

This is an opportunity in the exciting and fast-growing transportation technology industry. Public transit is being transformed from a system of static, scheduled fixed-routes, to a dynamic on-demand network, and you will be one of the pioneers shaping this transformation.As the newest member of our Software Engineering team, you will contribute to the design and development of RideCo’s industry-leading ride sharing platform. The ideal candidate must possess a sound grasp of Software Architecture & Development principles, leveraging their ability to understand business requirements and translate them directly into product and implementation decisions. You will thrive in a small-team environment with fast-paced agile iterations, where every developer contributes code that delivers a meaningful impact to our customers and the company.Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:Backend Development:Build and maintain robust, scalable APIs using Django to power web and mobile applications.Implement data models and business logic to manage complex interactions and handle high transaction volumes efficiently.Ensure backend systems are secure, reliable, and optimized for performance.Frontend Development:Develop dynamic, user-friendly interfaces with Angular, ensuring seamless user experiences across desktop and mobile platforms.Create reusable UI components and implement responsive designs that adapt across different devices and screen sizes.Optimize front-end performance for fast load times and smooth interactions.Mobile Application Development:Design and develop hybrid mobile applications using Ionic for Android and iOS platforms.Enhance mobile app functionality with new features while ensuring cross-platform compatibility.Collaborate with the design team to create visually appealing and intuitive mobile user interfaces.Collaboration and Communication:Work closely with product managers, designers, and other developers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to ensure alignment and clear communication across the team.Testing and Maintenance:Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure code quality and system stability.Perform debugging and troubleshooting to resolve issues across the stack quickly.Maintain and enhance existing codebases, ensuring they stay up-to-date with modern practices and technologies.Continuous Improvement:Participate in code reviews to share knowledge and uphold coding standards.Stay current with emerging technologies and suggest ways to incorporate them into our development practices.Contribute to improving team workflows, tools, and processes for greater efficiency.Your Toolbox / What You’ll Master: At RideCo you’ll get a chance to play, learn, and build with the following tools and technologies as part of a cross-functional team that is the world’s foremost innovator in on-demand transit software.Languages: Python, JavaScript/Typescript (Angular)Frameworks: Django, FlaskWeb & Mobile: Ionic, hybrid apps for Android and iOSInfrastructure: AWS, Terraform, Redis, PostgreSQL, Celery, RabbitMQMonitoring & Analytics: Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, KibanaDevelopment Practices: Agile, CI/CD, JenkinsQualifications and Experience:Requirements:Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.3+ years of professional software development experience.Proven expertise in building and maintaining responsive web applications.Strong experience designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs.Solid understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).Experience developing hybrid mobile applications using Ionic.Preferred:Proficiency in Python (Django or Flask) and Angular frameworks.Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL and Redis.Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, EC2, RDS).Knowledge of Agile methodologies and CI/CD processes.Excitement for learning new technologies and solving complex problems.Compensation and Benefits:Base Salary: $90K - $120K + performance-based bonus + stock optionsWork-Life Balance & Additional Perks: Flex-time work schedules, vacation time, bi-weekly catered lunches, social events, casual dress codeBenefits Plan: Medical, dental, prescription, life/health spending accounts and moreWork Environment: Located in KW's most desirable workspace in the heart of Uptown WaterlooCommuter Program: Complimentary rides to and from work in Waterloo RegionWho we are:http://www.rideco.comRideCo powers on-demand transit.
