And that’s where you come in.Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)We are looking for an Intermediate Electrical Hardware Designer to join our Hardware team in TorontoThe successful candidate will produce application designs and equipment designs that meet requirements utilizing processes based on established engineering principles.Key Accountabilities:Technical Skills:Interpreting, identifying, and documentation of requirements such that customer needs are met within the budget and schedule constraintsAbility to assemble components into enclosures to optimize room footprintsContributing to the development of new designsImplementing designs using good design practice and applicable AREMA and CENELEC standards and guidelinesDevising and running tests to verify functionality and identifying and solving problemsPreparing material specifications for hardware and/or software componentsParticipating in selection of components that optimize MTBF of assembliesCreation of project documentation and interface with Consortium members, technical customer staff, and various other stakeholdersEnsures both the safety and quality of hardware products while reducing deployment costsContribute to heightened reuse of product hardware and improvements in hardware qualityDemonstrates logical reasoning resulting in effective hardware application designs, products, and processesUnderstands IS/MS SelTrac Radio equipmentManagement Skills:Manage assigned tasks within schedule and budgetKeep track of progress on all tasks assignedVerify that all assigned work has been completed accurately and on timeWith guidance and supervision as required, carry out all assigned work efficientlySupport the development of accurate, supportable estimates for current departmental technology and provide estimates for technologies that are new to the departmentAptitude:Locating and researching source documentation for design activitiesMaking timely decisions, both independently and in concert with othersIdentifying problems or inefficiencies in the department’s operation and suggesting improvementsKey Requirements:3+ years related work experience in the rail industry specifically in hardware signaling designBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent engineering degreeComputer literate with knowledge of CAD tools (MicroStation, AutoCAD), Bills of Materials (SAP), Configuration Management, and Microsoft Office suiteProficient with the use of development tools and CAD packages (Microstation, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical)Well-developed verbal skills in English to interact effectively and professionally in a variety of forumsWell-developed writing skills in English to prepare clear, effective documentsGood interpersonal and diplomatic skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization and the customerGood technical writing skillsAbility to work in a team environmentAbility to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with othersPreferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent engineering degreePower distribution design knowledge for rail deploymentPrior knowledge of a configuration management systemThank you for your interest in Hitachi Rail.
