The Prairie Provinces Water Board enables cooperative water management between the federal and provincial governments in the Prairie region. Water in this region mostly flows from west to east and is a shared responsibility between the two levels of governments. The Master Agreement on Apportionment has been in place since October 1969, outlining how they would share and protect transboundary surface water, aquifers, and water quality.
