Senior Underwriter, Auto - Ontario Zurich Canada’s growing Middle Market business is looking for a Senior Underwriter for the Ontario region. The role reports to the VP, Middle Market, Ontario Region and focuses on building broker relationships, underwriting new and renewal business and enhancing the Zurich Canada brand. Responsibilities Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business using The Zurich Way of Underwriting framework within delegated authority. Administer and monitor underwriting rules, insurance laws and rating annual rules. Collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business needs. Provide guidance to lower‑level associates when required. Develop and maintain relationships with brokers to support business retention and acquisition. Act as a help point for brokers and customers, proactively seeking renewal and new account opportunities. Conduct detailed opportunity assessments with distributors to identify growth opportunities. Qualify accounts to align with the organization’s appetite while ensuring sound business opportunity. Make broker/customer calls and on‑site visits. Cross‑sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account. Engage proactively in the target account process and serve as the key Zurich contact for assigned target accounts. Anticipate customer needs and monitor trends to recommend changes. Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market‑Facing area. OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area. OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market‑Facing area. OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area. Knowledge of lines of business and legal/regulatory guidelines. Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business. Experience with Microsoft Office. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree, 3+ years of commercial lines auto underwriting experience, strong verbal and written communication skills.
