SUMMARY
This pivotal role is responsible for developing and implementing our Enterprise Data Architecture strategy, ensuring that our data-related projects are aligned with our overall architectural framework, and ensuring that data is organized, accessible, secure, and aligned with business objectives.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Define and lead the execution of the enterprise data architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and objectives.
  2. Establish and govern an enterprise data management framework to improve the quality, management, and use of data across the organization.
  3. Define and manage standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure data quality.
  4. Liaise with IM&T teams, business analysts, and data analytics teams to understand data consumers' needs and develop solutions.
  5. Provide expertise in application architecture, recommending solutions that integrate seamlessly with the enterprise data architecture.
  6. Evaluate and select appropriate software or hardware and suggest integration methods to support the organization's data needs.
  7. Lead, coach, and mentor team members to build and enhance capabilities in data architecture and application development.
  8. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  9. Work closely with IM&T and business stakeholders to understand their needs and ensure the data architecture meets those needs.
  10. Collaborate with BCFSA's data engineer, data governance analyst, privacy officer, infrastructure team, developers, and business analysts to integrate data strategies and solutions across the organization.
  11. Work closely with vendors to assess and select data tools and software that align with the organization's technology stack and strategic goals.
  12. Conduct product evaluations, proof of concepts, and make recommendations based on technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
  13. Act as a self-starter with a commitment to learning, sharing knowledge and applying insights from the evolving fields of data and artificial intelligence within the organization.
  14. Stay informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data architecture and application development to drive innovation and strategic initiatives.
  15. Lead and manage data-related projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and budget.
  16. Oversee the architectural aspects of application development projects, ensuring best practices are followed.
  17. Ensure that data management and application development practices comply with relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
  18. Advocate for and implement data security, quality, and governance practices.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Minimum five years of relevant experience in design and implementation of data models for enterprise data warehouse initiatives.
  2. Proven experience as an Enterprise Data Architect and Application Architect, in a large organization.
  3. Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  5. Hands-on experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
  6. Familiarity with software development methodologies and lifecycle management.
  7. Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop teams.
  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
  9. Certifications in data architecture, application architecture, or related fields.
  10. Experience with cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  11. Experience leading projects involving data warehousing, data modeling, and data analysis.
  12. Knowledge of data privacy and security regulations relevant to the public sector.
  13. Design experience in Azure Databricks, PySpark, and Power BI/Tableau.
  14. Strong ability in programming languages such as Java, Python, and C/C++.
  15. Ability in data science languages/tools such as SQL, R, SAS, or Excel.
  16. Proficiency in the design and implementation of modern data architectures and concepts such as cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP), real-time data distribution (Kafka, Dataflow), and modern data warehouse tools (Snowflake, Databricks).
  17. Experience with database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, Oracle, Hadoop, or Teradata.
  18. Understanding of entity-relationship modeling, metadata systems, and data quality tools and techniques.
  19. Ability to assess traditional and modern data architecture components based on business needs.
  20. Experience with business intelligence tools and technologies such as ETL, Power BI, and Tableau.
  21. Ability to regularly learn and adopt new technology, especially in the ML/AI.
  22. Ability to collaborate and excel in complex, cross-functional teams involving data scientists, business analysts, and stakeholders.

EDUCATION

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Information Technology Management, or related field.
