OverviewHalton Children’s Aid Society is seeking volunteers to mentor children and youth in the Halton community. This is an on-site, ongoing volunteering opportunity with opportunities to make a positive impact as a role model in the lives of children and youth of all ages. 35 openings.For face-to-face mentoring, volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.What you’ll be doingYou’ll be a friend and positive role model for a child or youth in care. You will help develop positive social skills, confidence and self-esteem through friendly, supportive interaction. Volunteers act as mentors to children and youth of all ages, and in as little as a few hours a month you can make a significant difference.The Halton Children’s Aid Society is committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible environment where all volunteers, employees and members of the public are respected. We are dedicated to building mentoring relationships that reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.Time CommitmentTime is dependent on the needs of each child or youth and your available time.Approximately once a week with a minimum one-year commitment.Major ResponsibilitiesProvide positive and supportive communication between yourself and the child or youth, leading by example.Report activities and progress to the child or youth’s worker.Be attentive to the needs and interests of the child or youth.Take ownership for the goals and direction provided by the Society/worker.Adhere to the Society’s Code of Conduct.Requirements / QualificationsListening skills, friendly, non-judgmental and caring; experience relating to children, youth, and families.Good time management and organizational skills.Be fully vaccinated and provide receipt.Vulnerable Sector Screening.Driver’s Abstract.Patience, sense of humor and a caring personality.Proof of COVID vaccination may be required for face-to-face mentoring.CPIN Record Check; Background or police records check may be required.3 references; willingness to undergo an interview.Comfortable commuting to the opportunity location.BenefitsEstablish a meaningful connection with a child or youth in your community.Support growth and development; facilitate life-skills development.Develop teamwork, leadership, reliability, punctuality, motivation and accountability.Be a positive role model and enjoy meeting new people.Team SupportSupervisor of Volunteer ServicesChild or youth’s workerVolunteer Services Team AssistantLocation & ContactOn-site address: 1445 Norjohn Court, Unit #1, Burlington, Ontario, L7L 0E6, Canada.
