Electrical Engineer: Embedded Systems Design

Pay Range: $140,000 to $200,000 per year

SUMMARY

The applicant will be responsible for embedded systems design for high-tech sensor and actuator control in automated machines.

Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Full lifecycle development, including specification, documentation, design, debug, and verification of products.
  • Designing, implementing, and verifying extensible embedded hardware platforms to support a wide product range.
  • Designing, implementing, and verifying highly-integrated analog and digital circuits for precision applications.
  • Schematic design, layout, routing, and DFMs and DFAs of complex PCBAs.
  • Designing and implementing peripheral communication interfaces and protocols for sensors and accessories over SPI, I²C, Ethernet (TCP/IP, EtherCAT) and others.
  • Designing integrated opto-electromechanical devices such as cameras, lighting, or 3D sensors.
  • Designing and implementing embedded software for device and peripheral control.
  • Working closely with mechanical and software engineers on integration.

Education

  • MS or BS in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent. PhD considered.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience and discipline designing circuitry and PCBAs.
  • Experience designing with MCUs or SoCs.
  • Proficiency with ECAD and EDA.
  • Familiarity with common electronic communication protocols.
  • Fluency in C programming, embedded design patterns, and common pitfalls.
  • Problem-solving ability, quick learning, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ARM-based MCUs or SoCs.
  • Experience with design for high-speed signaling.
  • Experience designing PCBAs and cabling for EMC.
  • Experience designing drives for electromechanical actuators such as brushless motors.
  • Understanding of digital signal processing techniques and filters.
  • Understanding of modern control theory and applicable control algorithms.
  • Experience with USB or Ethernet.
  • Experience and discipline in writing embedded software or FPGA HDL.
  • Proficiency with programming, software development techniques, and version control.
