Your Role
The General Manager of a major civil and harvesting construction company, with revenues exceeding $40 million annually, operates across all resource sectors, in a complex and challenging commercial environment. The ideal candidate will be a highly capable senior leader who is comfortable working in a complex organization where skills in people management, finance, governance, and risk management are highly valued. You must be knowledgeable and adept at supporting the financial management aspects of businesses, with demonstrated experience in managing existing operations, evaluating new investment opportunities, and developing and communicating a long-term strategic plan. You excel at leading a team and thrive at building, coaching, and mentoring individuals. You will engage thoughtfully, respectfully, and skillfully with your stakeholder communities to drive respectful relationships for long-term success.
Duties and Responsibilities
Company Administration- Proper administration of the company
- Develop and maintain client relationships
- Assist in the establishment of scope, quality, and budget of projects
- Oversee the activities of the management team to ensure compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements
- Ensure effective management of multiple activities and projects simultaneously
- Develop and implement approved policies and procedures
- Develop and implement annual operational work plans and budgets, and project plans and budgets as approved
- Develop and submit RFP's, tendered bids, and negotiate contracts with prospective clients
- Ensure compliance with SFN mandates regarding member-owned business entities
- Review status reports prepared by the management team and modify work plans, schedules, and budgets as required
- Prepare and submit all required applications, documentation, and reports
- Direct and coordinate activities of Project Managers and management team to ensure project progress
- Provide technical support and advice to resolve project issues
- Track project performance and analyze completion of projects
- Meet budgetary objectives and adjust project constraints as needed
- Ensure timely completion of work for project efficiency
- Enforce safety rules and ensure all workers have necessary resources
- Interface with trade professionals, unions, and government officials for permits and approvals
- Report and communicate to the Board of Directors regularly
- Delegate project staff based on strengths and experience
- Conduct performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback
- Provide leadership and motivation to all staff
- Identify and enable professional development and training needs of staff
- Continuously develop leadership skills
- Hold semi-annual SFN Member owned business forums to discuss project activities
- Assist and mentor SFN member owned businesses to improve their operations
Qualifications
- A Registered Professional Forester (RPF), Project Management Professional (PMP), or Construction Professional with a degree or certificate in business management preferred
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a senior operational leadership role in Civil Construction, Forestry Operations, and/or Oil and Gas
- Detail oriented with strong operational, analytical, time management, and organizational skills
- Proven track record in estimation and negotiation of complex contracts
- Well-developed problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- High level of professional integrity for handling confidential information
