ABOUT YOU :

You will be involved in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating a variety of community-based recreation programs with a focus on indoor/outdoor fitness services, health and wellness programs, and special events; promoting interest and participation in program activities; and supervising staff to ensure effective program operations.

YOU HAVE :

  1. Considerable knowledge of the recreational, social and cultural interests, requirements and resources of the area served.
  2. Considerable knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices.
  3. Sound knowledge of methods, policies and procedures applicable to the work.
  4. Sound knowledge of recreation programming including fitness, health & wellness, outdoor services, youth, seniors, among others.
  5. The ability to work with program budgets and operating schedules; supervise; and assist community groups.
  6. Direct experience working with volunteers and community in planning for services.
  7. A high level of interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability, and the ability to work independently with sound judgment.
  8. Proficiency with PerfectMind, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS :

College or University graduation with courses in leisure and recreation, or related subjects, supplemented by some related work experience in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in a recreational environment where principles of community development and engagement drive the delivery of leisure and recreation services. A valid Class 5 BC driver's license and access to a vehicle for NVRC business. Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certification is an asset.

This is a regular full-time position, involving shift work including days, evenings and weekends for 35 hours per week. Comprehensive benefits include dental, extended health, and life insurance coverage, 3 weeks paid annual vacation, opportunity to participate in an earned day off program for an additional 15 days off annually, participation in Municipal Pension Plan, and access to an Employee Family Assistance Program.

Employees will be available to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position.

Hourly Rates: The pay for this unionized regular full-time position starts at step 1, $36.08 and ranges up to $42.45 per hour, plus a comprehensive benefit package that includes enrolment into group life insurance, extended health, dental benefits, the Municipal Pension Plan upon eligibility, and the option of participating in the Earned Days Off program.
