As a Community Relations Coordinator, you will work with the Communications team to develop and execute initiatives that support the Elevated Guideway Project's community benefits, community relations and communications programs. This position reports to the Communications and Public Engagement Lead.
The key responsibilities include:
  1. Collaborating with project subcontractors and Aecon's Human Resources department to support recruitment efforts targeting local communities and equity-deserving groups for apprenticeships and professional roles within the project.
  2. Working with community organizations and workforce development agencies to facilitate the recruitment process.
  3. Conducting information sessions and workshops for job seekers from local communities and equity-deserving groups, focusing on employment opportunities in the construction sector and the Elevated Guideway Project.
  4. Identifying business opportunities to engage local businesses in the project.
  5. Partnering with workforce agencies to plan, organize, and deliver employment-related information sessions.
  6. Assisting with tracking and monitoring the workforce development plan, including preparing reports and presentation materials as required.
  7. Buidling and maintaining relationships with residents, business owners, educational institutions, Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), and other stakeholders impacted by the project.
  8. Liasing with the construction management team and on-site staff to understand and effectively communicate the type, sequencing, and duration of construction activities and their potential impacts on the public and stakeholders.
  9. Monitoring construction schedules and providing real-time updates to the Communications team to ensure the development of accurate and timely public communication materials.
  10. Supporting adherence to notification requirements with the construction management team and on-site crews.
  11. Working with the client to identify, track, and resolve construction-related issues affecting the public, particularly those in the immediate construction area.
  12. Attending coordination and working group meetings to identify opportunities for public engagement and integrate communication activities with construction schedules.
  13. Maintaining a detailed events calendar to assist the Communications Team in planning consistent, effective, and integrated communication, stakeholder relations, and community engagement activities.
  14. Planning and executing public meetings, open houses, tele-townhalls, and community events, ensuring a consistent, effective, and positive experience for all participants.
  15. Developing presentations for public meetings and open houses as needed.
  16. Assisting in the development and maintenance of business signage for the project.
  17. Supporting on-site incidents and crisis communications by providing timely updates to the Communications team.
  18. Responding to public inquiries (in-person, by telephone, or via email) regarding design and construction activities, including construction schedules, transit and traffic impacts, and community meetings.
  19. Tracking inquiries and providing regular updates on metrics.
  20. Staffing the Project Community Office on a rotating schedule with the other Community Relations representative to address face-to-face community inquiries as required.
  21. Supporting the team and the client in developing and maintaining communication and public engagement efforts.
  22. Undertaking other duties as assigned by the Communications and Public Engagement Lead.

You will bring to the team:
  • A post-secondary diploma in communications or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of construction trade unions and employment sector.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in Community Relations or Corporate Communications and a good understanding of communicating about transit projects or construction-related projects.
  • Good presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must work well within a cross-functional team environment as well as independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skill: ability to build positive relationships and working effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Must be energetic and comfortable with a fast-paced environment with constantly changing needs.
  • Proven track record in coordinating multiple priorities and applying effective issues management techniques.
  • Excellent skills with MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • This is an on-site position. Must have a vehicle and be able to drive and be present on-site.
