The most important aspect of our operations is our dedicated people; our people will always be the source of our success and their safety and health will always come first.We are currently seeking a Dock Leadhand - Trainee in our Winnipeg Head Office to join our team.ResponsibilitiesParticipate as an active team member by assisting in the movement of freight on the dockTrain and develop dockworkersCreate a cooperative work environment with all external and internal customers to ensure a high level of customer serviceAssist the foreman in the setup and organization of the shiftSupervise unloading and loading of trailers/trucks to maintain efficiencies and ensure proper freight handlingAssist in solving freight problems as they ariseMonitor dock for efficiency and cleanlinessProcess paperwork in a timely manner according to company standardsManage inventory of tools and supplies to reduce risk, loss and damagePractice safe work procedures and ensure the team follows safe work practicesAssist as needed in other Dock functions that support operations goals and objectivesQualificationsExperience leading a team in a large commercial/industrial facilityIdeally at least one year of experience in general freight operationsExcellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure and manage urgent requirementsStrong interpersonal skills to foster relationships with business unit leaders, vendors, contractors, and suppliersHands-on approach with the ability to get the job doneExperience using Microsoft Office programsWorking knowledge of WHMIS and the Health & Safety ActPrior experience and certification using a forkliftPhysical RequirementsAbility to bend, stoop, stand, walk, turn, pivot, and stand for long periods. Operation of power and manual tools daily. Must operate forklifts in a sitting position, and may use walkie talkie and power jacks in a standing position. Balance and coordination to assess weights and distances; ability to work in varying temperatures; PPE must be worn at all times.
