Bilingual Cloud Migration Specialist – Java/AIX to AWS Location: Montreal, QC - HYBRID-2-3 days working at the office in Montreal Experience Level: Senior (8–12+ years) Employment Type: 12 months contract Languages: Fluency in French and English is mandatory Position Overview: We are seeking a bilingual (French/English) Cloud Migration Specialist with strong Java (J2EE) and AIX/WebSphere expertise to lead the migration and modernization of legacy enterprise applications to AWS cloud‑native platforms. This senior‑level role requires hands‑on technical ability, analytical problem‑solving, and proven experience in refactoring legacy systems into modern, containerized, and scalable cloud environments. Key Responsibilities Lead the migration of legacy Java applications from AIX/WebSphere ND/IHS to AWS. Replatform applications to Spring Boot / OpenLiberty with minimal code changes. Containerize applications using Docker and deploy on Amazon ECS or EKS. Integrate AWS services including RDS, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, and S3. Collaborate with DevOps teams to design and implement CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, or Jenkins. Conduct performance tuning, validation, and optimization of migrated applications in AWS. Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Configuration as Code using Ansible. Utilize App2Container and related tools for analyzing and containerizing legacy Java workloads. Document migration strategies, produce detailed runbooks, and lead knowledge transfer sessions. Support hybrid or multi‑cloud environments as part of ongoing modernization initiatives. Required Technical Skills Java (J2EE): Deep experience developing, maintaining, and refactoring enterprise‑grade Java applications. Spring Boot: Skilled in modernizing monolithic applications into modular, container‑ready microservices. WebSphere ND & IHS: Strong understanding of application server configuration, clustering, and deployments. AIX/Unix: Hands‑on expertise with IBM AIX systems and shell scripting. Containerization: Proven experience with Docker and container orchestration (ECS/EKS). AWS Services: ECS, EKS, RDS (Oracle/PostgreSQL), S3, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, and IAM. CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Bitbucket Pipelines (design and automation). Infrastructure as Code: Terraform (provisioning), Ansible (configuration management). Migration Tools: App2Container, AWS Migration Hub, or equivalent. Spring Cloud AWS: For native integration with AWS services. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional (mandatory). AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional (preferred). 8–12+ years of hands‑on experience in Java‑based enterprise environments, including AIX and WebSphere. Demonstrated experience with hybrid or multi‑cloud migrations. Familiarity with modernization tools such as vFunction or AWS Refactor Spaces.
