Job Summary We are hiring a Casual RN/RPN, Mental Health & Substance Use Services, Older Adult to join our team in White Rock, B.C. Detailed Overview In accordance with BCCNM standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the RN/RPN provides person‑centered and recovery‑oriented care for tertiary and/or older adult patients experiencing serious mental health and bio‑psychosocial problems. The RN/RPN demonstrates nursing expertise and provides clinical leadership in evidence‑based practices through direct care activities including assessments, crisis intervention, patient and family education and health promotion activities from a psychosocial rehabilitation perspective. Responsibilities Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care of assigned clients through history review, assessments, monitoring of conditions and psycho‑education. Develop, implement, evaluate and document psychosocial rehabilitative plans in collaboration with clients’ support systems and interdisciplinary team members. Facilitate individual and/or group treatment using cognitive, behavioural, educational, problem‑solving and crisis intervention methods. Provide individual supportive counselling and life‑skills training when applicable. Participate in and support the unit’s total therapeutic program. Collect information from multiple sources to enable appropriate nursing care. Write timely and accurate reports of assessments and observations. Communicate and consult with health‑care team members, set priorities, assign and delegate tasks, and participate in interprofessional conferences. Act as an advocate to protect and promote clients’ rights to autonomy, respect, privacy and dignity. Participate in quality‑improvement activities and research, and in nursing and hospital committees. Orient and educate nursing staff and students as a preceptor or mentor. Participate in the evaluation of patient‑care programmes and procedures. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to safety and emergency practices. Perform other professionally related duties as required. Qualifications Education and Experience Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. One (1) year recent related mental‑health experience in an acute, tertiary or community setting, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with BCCNM. May require completion of a substance‑use certificate programme and a valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence. Skills and Abilities Complete mental‑health and substance‑use client assessment and provide nursing care via appropriate interventions. Knowledge of mental illness, substance‑use treatment, psychosocial rehabilitation, psychopharmacology. Proficiency in crisis intervention, de‑escalation, suicide‑risk assessment and violence‑management protocols. Counselling and group facilitation skills. Knowledge of relevant legislation and government policies. Effective verbal and written communication with clients, families, the public and medical staff. Promote person‑centered care and advocate for diverse populations. Educate clients and families about health‑care topics. Organize and prioritize work; collaborate with the interprofessional team. Use evidence‑based practice to support nursing decisions. Operate relevant equipment and computer applications. Physical ability to perform job duties. #J-18808-Ljbffr
