Join to apply for the Environmental Specialist role at McDermott International, Ltd.Job OverviewThe Environmental Specialist will implement the Prime Contractor’s environmental management program for marine-based scopes of work and ensure subcontractor compliance with applicable management plans and regulatory requirements. The role will liaise with subcontractor environment and construction teams, develop and implement environmental mitigation measures, and coordinate environmental monitoring resources. The position is site-based on a 14/7 rotation and may require night shift rotations to support site operations.Base Salary Range92,183.10 - 105,660.64 (base salary only 40 hours per week). Additional contracted hours and total rewards package, including project up-lift & bonuses.ResponsibilitiesConduct environmental inspections, assessments, and audits to verify subcontractor compliance with project permits, approvals, and environmental requirementsSupport the development, review, and approval of Environmental Work Plans (EWPs) and Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs)Collaborate closely with the prime contractor construction and subcontractor construction teams to assist with work planning and ensure the inclusion of environment and regulatory requirementsLead or participate in investigations of environmental incidents and regulatory non-compliances to determine root causes and corrective actionsParticipate in and/or lead environmental site walkthroughs with management or subcontractor environment teamsParticipate in regular client, subcontractor, and internal meetingsConduct quality assurance reviews on subcontractor environmental monitoring data to identify deficiencies and ensure accuracy of reported dataDevelop and foster positive relationships with the client, subcontractors, and external stakeholdersPrepare and/or review weekly and monthly environmental monitoring reportsSupport the implementation of the contractor’s environmental management systems to meet corporate, legislative, and client requirements, including compliance with international standards (e.g., ISO 14001 environmental management system)QualificationsA minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Environmental Science, Biology, or Earth SciencesPossession of a professional designation in British Columbia (PAg, RPBio, CPESC, etc.) or eligibility to obtain one is an asset3–5 years of experience on major projects and field experience implementing environmental management programs and subcontractor management during constructionExperience with marine construction, pile installation, or marine mammal monitoring is an assetExperience conducting environmental monitoring activities, inspections, assessments, adaptively managing changing conditions, and problem-solving skillsKnowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental regulationsEffective communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skillsProficient in Microsoft programs including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePointAbout UsOur ingenuity fuels daily life.
