Join to apply for the Ground Control EIT role at Barrick Gold Investments. Location: Williams Operating Corporation – Barrick Gold, near Marathon, Northwestern Ontario. Overview The Ground Control EIT will assume responsibility for all short‑term ground control issues (determined by the 3‑month schedule), including planning and implementation of solutions. The position reports to the Senior Ground Control Engineer and focuses on ensuring the safety and productivity of underground operations. Responsibilities Promote safe working practices and complete Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA), pre‑operational equipment checks and non‑routine hazardous tasks on every underground trip. Review the 3‑monthly production and development plans and translate them into a self‑managed work plan for the period. Monitor the seismic system daily, maintain the database, alert operating groups when necessary and keep a log of seismic activity. Discuss ground control concerns with planners, devise solutions, and raise alerts to higher levels when required. Coordinate changes in short‑term mining sequences with the Senior Ground Control Engineer early to enable effective evaluation. Conduct sufficient underground tours and evaluate ground control in active mine areas and travel ways. Respond to Ground Occurrence Reports by liaising with the submitter and creating a plan of action. Maintain accurate written records of underground trips. Carry out geotechnical mapping in underground openings and maintain the database efficiently. Ensure core shack checks are performed so that geotechnical core logging is completed as required. Design layout drawings for rehabilitation, cable bolts, etc. Perform QA/QC audits of installed support, operator installation methods, grout samples, pull tests, and other quality requirements. Maintain working databases of all job aspects, including rehabilitation and ground support plans, geotechnical inspections, mapping, core logging, QA/QC, and instrumentation. Understand and execute tasks outlined in the Ground Control Management Plan. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, geology, or equivalent. Ground control experience preferred. Knowledge and experience of rock mechanics and 2D & 3D numerical modelling software (e.g., Map3D, Unwedge, other Rocscience tools). Excellent data entry skills. Experience with Deswik and Microsoft Office. Attention to detail, high‑level multi‑tasking, and strong organization. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Leadership qualities.
