This role supports and mentors a team of junior to mid-level coastal engineers and expands our coastal modelling, geomorphology, sediment transport, and coastal design capabilities across Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The successful candidate will lead technical delivery, support business development, and guide interdisciplinary teams working on shoreline protection, restoration, flood risk management, and infrastructure resilience.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and deliver complex coastal engineering and sediment transport modelling projects using tools such as MIKE, Delft3D, XBEACH, SWAN, and othersProvide strategic input and peer review across shoreline management plans, wave overtopping assessments, and coastal structure designs (revetments, breakwaters, living shorelines, etc.)Mentor junior and intermediate staff in coastal process modelling, design principles, and project delivery methodologiesPerform geomorphological assessments and contribute to sediment dynamics studies in riverine, estuarine, and marine environmentsDevelop design packages for coastal restoration and protection projects, including detailed engineering drawings and technical specificationsContribute to the design and assessment of flood protection infrastructure such as dikes/levees, particularly in coastal and estuarine environmentsCollaborate with business line leaders to support client relationship management and new project opportunities in British Columbia and the U.S. Pacific NorthwestContribute to Environmental Assessments, permitting documentation, and multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects across North AmericaCollaborate with national and global technical experts to advance coastal resilience strategies and innovative adaptation solutionsQualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Coastal, or Environmental Engineering (or related field)P.Eng. in British Columbia required; P.E. in Washington or another U.S. state is a strong assetMinimum 8+ years of experience in coastal engineering and numerical modelling, with a demonstrated ability to lead project teams and interface with clientsPREFERRED EXPERIENCE:Master’s degree in Coastal Engineering or related field20 years of coastal engineering and modelling experiencePrior experience in coastal project design and construction support, including permitting and regulatory processesStrong background in sediment transport, coastal geomorphology, or related disciplinesProficient in coastal modelling software such as DHI MIKE, Delft3D, SWAN, or XBEACHCoding experience in Matlab, Python, or related programming languageFamiliarity with processing and analyzing large oceanographic and climatological data setsDemonstrated success in business development and proposal leadershipSkilled in report writing, technical communication, and presenting to clients and stakeholdersSome occasional travel required to project sites, clients, and other AECOM officesInterest in long-term mentorship and developing regional coastal capabilities across teams in Canada and the U.S.Additional InformationOffered compensation will be based on location and qualifications.
