How You’ll Contribute: The AV Design Engineer (DE) is a member of the core team for each AV (Workplace) project. The DE provides technical direction and insight through the project life cycle from sales concept to design development, construction drawings to implementation support. As a technical authority on a project team, the DE is instrumental in the determination and execution of client and system requirements, looking holistically at solutions, and will collaborate with teams as required. Reporting to a Senior leader of Technical Operation (DTO), the DE’s project assignments are determined based on enterprise‑wide demands. They will typically be assigned an array of projects from small, mid‑to‑complete projects. NOTE - while a virtual position based in Canada, this role supports customers globally. What You’ll Do: Leads complex engagements and work directly with clients and project teams to develop solutions, budgets, timelines, and manage expectations. Negotiate changes in deliverables and schedules and is an escalation point for engineering issues. May be required to regularly lead a team on large projects. Understand SOW, Budgets, Deliverables & Due dates Create Other Design Docs and Functional Narrative IT Network Design in coordination with F.E and client IT Admins. Conceptualize system designs and determine system requirements. Provide technical expertise and coordination information to support the system architecture and installation; and planning of audio, video, and control solutions, as well as tasks performed by others. Oversee and/or develop the Bill of Materials (BOM) and support documentation. Employ detailed design documentation strategy based on established engineering standard practices, which can include Develop detailed PDF markups for CAD to translate into construction drawings. Track engineering team tasks to completion. Manage as built drawings Lead coordination during design phase with Architect / GC / EC Generate functional system descriptions, complete block wiring diagrams, rack elevations, custom plates, or cabling assemblies. Attend Technical Kickoff BOM Scrub Release to Order to PM Determine, present, review and justify mathematically sound system design calculation principles such as speaker coverage, ups power requirements, 3 phase power distribution loads, proper viewing metrics, streaming bandwidth and labor estimates. Research, identify, and recommend technology options for clients and projects. Provide technical expertise for the creation of and later reconciliation of the complete construction drawing package, support documentation for installation and coordination with architects and other trades. Support in Test, commission, and configure subsystems during project deployment. Support projects and teams in build phase. Complete the as‑built drawings for service hand‑over. Provide regular project engineering milestone status updates to Technical Operations, Project Engineering, and other teams. Continuing to develop expertise in the industry through ongoing review of trade publications, participation in industry trade shows, seminars, and educational forums. Complexity: The Design Engineer collaborates with the Regional Engineering Manager on resource assignments and Senior Design Engineers, the Technical Operations teams, and Sales teams on projects. This role is primarily billable in a post‑sales capacity, though there are times when the DE will work on presales estimation and design efforts. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. Work will normally be performed within normal office conditions and/or home office depending on location of DE. On occasions the employee may be exposed to construction site conditions. Employee will be responsible for their safety while on job sites and comply with all safety regulations in place by the GC. Use of PPE is usually required on job sites. The employee can typically spend at least 50% of their time on their feet and be required to mobile around the construction site. The individual is regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment and controls required for SI installation projects. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth vision. Travel: Occasional travel by car and occasional airplane trips may be required. Employee must possess a valid driver’s license in their state/ province of residence. What You’ll Bring: Education & Certifications: High school diploma or GED required Associate/bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent experience. Certifications or training with at least one DSP platform (Biamp, QSC, Clearone, etc.) Certifications or training with at least one control system (Crestron, Extron, AMX, QSC etc.) Minimum CTS certification is required. Required Skills/Qualifications: 4+ years’ experience in audiovisual technical systems design AVIXA CTS certification is required Experience with Government contracts and Federal design as it relates to AV systems Proven understanding of TCP/IP routing, ACL’s, QoS, VLAN’s and Wireless Access Points. Proven track record of successfully completing engineering projects. Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office 365 A clear understanding of project phases, to include Presales, Program, Conceptualization, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documentation, Construction, and Commissioning. A thorough, demonstrable understanding of the construction process, installation, and integration as well as architectural and construction drawings and specifications. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Electro‑acoustic modeling experience (e.g. EASE) and ability to use SMAART highly desirable Exceptional time management skills with a track record for meeting deadlines. Ability to analyze complex issues and communicate concise succinct messages. High level of problem solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
