Full Time Intervenor to Support People Who Are Deafblind Location: Hamilton, ON Organization: Sensity Deafblind and Sensory Support Network of Canada About Sensity: Sensity is a not‑for‑profit organization providing services and programs to members of the deafblind community. Job Summary: The Intervenor supports communication and day‑to‑day living for individuals who are living with dual sensory impairment so that they may live independently. This role offers opportunities for skill development, personal growth and fulfillment. Shift Availability Full Time: 40 hrs weekly (day shifts) Compensation and Benefits Competitive wage starting at $23.49/hour. Weekend shift premium. Benefit plan including a health spending account. Paid sick days. RRSP program with up to 3% employer match. Up to 50% reimbursement for relevant post‑degree courses after one year of service. Opportunities to participate in conferences and workshops locally and abroad. Key Responsibilities The Intervenor supports communication and day‑to‑day living for individuals who are living with dual sensory impairment so that they may live independently. Provide support in the individual's home and community environments. Use communication techniques to relay information. Empower the individual to participate successfully in all aspects of daily living, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, house cleaning, volunteerism, etc. Provide personal care as required (lifts and transfers, toileting, medication administration, etc.). Assist with developing and supporting individual goals and objectives. Assist with program development. Ensure documentation and records are complete. Qualifications Completion of a college diploma or certificate in Intervenor for Deafblind Persons program, or one of the following: Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), Community Services Worker (CSW), Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA), Personal Support Worker (PSW), Behavioural Science, or related human services field. Experience supporting persons with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviours. Experience supporting persons with mental health conditions. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed Exact English (SEE). Valid driver's licence Class G, access to a reliable vehicle, clean current driver's abstract, and ability to obtain automobile insurance with minimum liability of $2 million. Training Program In‑house training program provided by Sensity. Additional Information Employment conditional upon receipt of a successful Vulnerable Sector Police Check. Position requires repetitive hand motion, good manual dexterity, moderate stooping, bending, and lifting up to 35–50 lbs occasionally; work indoors and outdoors. French language may be considered an asset. Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English.
