Environmental Services Aide (Housekeeping) – Extendicare Job Description An Environmental Services Aide (Housekeeping) is required to perform a variety of cleaning and related duties in order to maintain the cleanliness of a specified (assigned) area of the facility. All tasks within this position will be performed in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and work routines. Lines of Reporting Falls within the Environmental Services Department budget. Reports directly to the Director of Environmental Services. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Perform daily shift routines as well as periodic and project cleaning tasks to maintain cleanliness of an assigned area. Cleaning and related duties (floor maintenance, hazardous product handling, carpet maintenance, washroom cleaning, waste receptacle emptying, supply replenishment, etc.): Floor maintenance: sweep, dust, damp mop; scrub/strip, seal and refinishing (waxing). Safe use and operation of all floor care equipment (polisher, auto scrubber, burnisher, scrubber). Handling hazardous/non‑hazardous cleaning products with proper safety precautions, personal protective equipment, MSDS reference, and preparation of germicide solutions. Carpet maintenance & upholstery furnishing care with carpet care equipment and upholstery connector equipment. Use of miscellaneous equipment for high/low cleaning: step stools, ladders, scaffolding, ergonomic stools, extension equipment for window cleaning and high‑level dusting. Washroom cleaning: toilets, sinks, bathtubs, fixtures, showers. Empty waste receptacles and transport waste to designated area using transport truck. Replenish supplies in janitor carts/stations, resident rooms, staff and public areas. Adhere to all administrative policies and procedures at all times. Adhere to the Resident Bill of Rights at all times. Other Duties And Responsibilities Commit to a culture of safety: report harm/injury, near‑misses and hazards; attend relevant health and safety services; follow provincial occupational health and safety guidelines. Support a safe, productive, cooperative work environment free from bullying, harassment and violence. Perform administrative and interactive tasks supporting housekeeping operation: orientation training of new employees, department staff meetings, input into policy development, reading and interpreting policies, cleanliness inspections. Support safe work practices, preventive maintenance programs, quality control programs, infection control programs, and a cooperative interactive work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications / Requirements Secondary school diploma is an asset. Physically able to perform all duties and responsibilities. Ability to read and interpret policies, procedures, labels, etc. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Bondable by authorized bonding company. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team environment. Positive attitude towards the F.J. Davey Home with genuine interest in working with the elderly. Good prior attendance and performance record. Ability to work various shifts and days of the week. Knowledge of infection control processes is an asset. Experience in a commercial and/or a health care cleaning environment considered an asset. Previous experience using commercial cleaning equipment.
