Welding Engineer

OverviewReporting to the DNNP Site Welding Manager, the Welding Engineer will assist in the planning, organization, control, integration and completion of works related to the welding scope for the SMR project. The Welding Engineer oversees all on-site welding activities related to the reactor building, reactor vessel and piping installation and conventional scopes.ResponsibilitiesOversee and assist in technical aspects of initiatives undertaken by the construction and welding teamA Construction Project Welding specialism is desired, to include integrating and working with all levels of the Management Team and the direct and indirect workforce on the groundKnowledge of how to manage, implement, and provide technical guidance to execute procedure qualification records using ASME, CWB and/or AWS welding codesReview and produce technical documentation in relation to welding fabricationCoordinate mechanical testing of PQRs, WPSs, WPQ and WMQs with local labsMake recommendations for continuous improvement of welding innovationCoordinate with Vendors to ensure timely and robust Non-Destructive Examination schedules required by the Project Specification and applicable Welding Codes and StandardsCommunicate with welding wire (consumable) and welding equipment vendors to review, assess, procure and commission welding related equipmentReview code of construction and customer technical requirements to provide technically accurate directionLiaise with Welding Center of Excellence as needed to support on-site installation welding activitiesProvide assurance that activities are performed in accordance with written and approved policy, standards, programs and applicable proceduresProvide and ensure effectiveness of the liaison function between the designer and construction teams in terms of information flow and problem resolutionMaintain high standards related to final product qualityBe based on site to support the assembly and construction activitiesCarry out site safety inspectionsParticipate in company-wide initiatives aimed at overall continuous improvementMake technical presentations to executives and customers as necessary to effectively communicate technical execution, problem resolution and other discussionsQualificationsPost secondary education in a Welding Technology or equivalent (ie. 3 year college diploma in Welding Technology)3+ Years of experience in welding within a construction or manufacturing environmentPrevious experience with ASME, CWB and/or AWS welding codes is considered an assetFamiliar with welding principles. (Basics of arc welding, types of welding etc.)Familiar with robotics or comparable semi-automated and mechanized machinery is an assetFamiliar with weld development initiatives such as PQRs, WPSs, and codes of constructionPrevious experience with the selection of welding consumables for fabricationPrevious experience with basic metallurgical analysis, techniques, and technical report reviewsAbility to produce solid models and 2D manufacturing drawings in Autodesk Inventor or an equivalent CAD package is considered an assetExperience working under a Nuclear Quality Program preferred, knowledge of N690 and N299 standardsExcellent communication skills (both oral and written)Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with a large teamOrganizational and time management skills.
