The Impact the Manager, Corporate, Foundation & Community Giving can make:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Philanthropy, you will lead the creation and implementation of CHV’s fundraising strategy to meet financial goals for the Corporate, Foundation & Community portfolios. As CHV is 85% privately funded, fundraising plays a vital role in the organization’s ability to serve youth 24/7.
You will coach and manage a team of five Philanthropy Officers/Senior Philanthropy Officers, manage a portfolio of major donors, and contribute to the leadership and culture of the larger Philanthropy team.
Coaching & Leadership
- Lead the Corporate, Foundations, and Community Giving team to raise $4M+ per year collectively. Your team will be composed of:
- Three Philanthropy Officers, Corporate & Foundation Giving, who work with major and mid-level donors
- Two Philanthropy Officers, Community Giving, who work with service clubs, community groups, corporate organizations, schools and students, and third-party event organizers, and manage our online DIY fundraising platform
- Lead weekly team meetings and bi-weekly one-on-one supervisory meetings with your team, providing tailored coaching and mentorship to each team member, and encouraging collaboration, professional development, and continuous performance improvement
- Work with team members to strategize on securing major gifts from key donors and prospects, including advising on next steps, proposals, and stewardship
- Liaise with the Prospect Development team to support the cultivation and advancement of relationships between Philanthropy Officers and their donors
- Perform supervisory functions including timesheet management, hiring, new employee training, time-off requests, office phone coverage, and performance evaluations
Major Gift Fundraising
- Manage a portfolio of 30 to 50 existing and prospective major donors ($25K+), by building relationships and ensuring donors’ interests and passions are met with current and future giving opportunities
- Act as an ambassador and advocate for Covenant House Vancouver in the community
- Create opportunities for engagement for major and annual giving donors that are compelling, engaging, transparent, timely and long-term
- Create customized presentations, written proposals, and reports as required
Strategic Leadership & Project Management
- Provide input into the development of the department’s goals, objectives, policies, long-range planning, and strategies for future development
- Oversee the Corporation, Foundation & Community Giving team’s revenue forecasting and reporting
- Lead various projects including donor gatherings, mass donor communications, developing procedures/policies, and incorporating change management best practices
- Collaborate with other Philanthropy managers to lead the larger team of Philanthropy Officers, Coordinators, and Associates
- Liaise and collaborate with colleagues across the agency to learn about internal programs and help create solutions to challenges that arise
- Assist in the development and implementation of annual fundraising goals, plans, and strategies for the Philanthropy team
This position has the opportunity to work a 9-day fortnight schedule most months of the year, where you’ll work longer days for 9 days and earn every other Friday off.
Education and Experience:
- 5-7 years of fundraising experience, preferably in major gift fundraising
- 3+ years of related management experience, including people management/leading a team
- Demonstrated ability to solicit major gifts by creating tailored donor proposals/grants and intentionally and successfully soliciting and reporting on $25K+ gifts through strategic moves management processes
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- College, University or professional certificate degree is preferred; a degree in a related field such as Communications, Business or Non-Profit Studies is an asset
- Experience with Raisers Edge NXT or similar database an asset
Competencies:
- Strong people skills and ability to listen, communicate, and relate to others on a personal and professional level.
- Experience with project management, strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting, data analysis, and awareness of local and national fundraising trends
- Excellent understanding of fundraising and major gift trends and best practices.
- Strategic planning, natural problem solving, and confident and thoughtful decision-making skills.
- Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and flexibility to respond quickly to inquiries and shifting priorities.

- Passion for learning about Vancouver’s youth homelessness issues
The successful candidate can expect a starting salary of between $73,073.Once hired, salaries are reviewed annually following the annual performance review and successful employees have the opportunity for their salary to increase, over time, up to the maximum of the pay band, currently $109,618.p>
