Insight R&D Inc. is seeking one highly specialized Research and Mechanical Engineer to continue and expand ongoing work on dry slag granulation, molten-slag handling, and high-temperature mechanical systems for large industrial clients. The role involves mechanical and materials system design, integration of high-pressure air systems, and the design of nozzles and high-temperature launder/trough, furnace components for blast-furnace steelmaking and smelting/process industries. Only candidates with direct, demonstrable experience in these areas will be considered. Who you are: A dedicated mechanical engineering researcher with a passion for solving complex challenges in heavy industry, materials processing, and sustainability. Practical and hands‑on, able to perform fundamental calculations based on core engineering principles (thermodynamics, heat/mass/momentum transfer, and fluid mechanics) and translate them into real designs. Experienced in molten material granulation/atomization and in developing mathematical models, selecting mechanical/process equipment, and integrating them into full molten material granulation systems. Skilled in designing and building prototype laboratory and pilot‑scale setups, including instrumentation and test procedures. Motivated to deliver technologies that make industrial processes safer, more energy‑efficient, and more resource‑conscious. Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary, and multicultural environment. Curious, structured, and willing to teach others and document work clearly as you grow in the role. Your Qualifications and Attributes: M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Materials engineering discipline, with direct, relevant experience in slag granulation/metal atomization/molten-slag handling/high-temperature systems. Proficient in engineering design of mechanical systems, including 2D drafting (AutoCAD) and 3D modelling (On shape, SolidWorks, Fusion 360), and comfortable using Excel or similar tools for engineering/mathematical calculation and modeling. Skilled in laboratory and R&D work, including building and testing pilot setups; experience with 3D printing, bio‑/waste‑to‑product processes, hydrometallurgy/pyrometallurgy, furnace design, and ducting/air‑delivery systems for granulation is a strong asset. Strong background in stress analysis, heat‑transfer modeling, and phase‑change (solidification) calculations, with proven skills in finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), including discrete phase modeling (DPM) for gas–particle flows. Experienced in the design of molten material granulation and atomization systems including design of refractory and high-temperature component systems, high‑speed nozzles, air‑blast systems, and trough/launder systems for molten materials. Demonstrated experience in project management, working with international collaborators and industrial clients, and documenting/reviewing engineering deliverables. Comfortable working in heavy‑industry environments (steel, smelting, metallurgical, or high‑temperature processing). Globally minded, able to work across cultures and time zones; multi‑lingual ability is an asset. A supportive team member and natural teacher, keen to learn and to share knowledge with colleagues. Job Description: You will be responsible for tackling engineering challenges in mechanical and metallurgical systems, with a strong focus on recycling and recovering materials from waste and by‑products (e.g., slag, process fines, industrial residues). For each assignment, you will: Develop mechanical/process concepts, system layouts, and engineering models to evaluate feasibility and performance. Analyze and define the baseline technical constraints and operating conditions. Review and interpret existing literature, standards, and industrial practices to identify potential solution paths. When no suitable solution exists, design and validate new alternatives at the laboratory, pilot, or full‑scale level. Work closely with our multidisciplinary team to design, build, instrument, and optimize pilot rigs or industrial process units until the required process performance, product quality, and operability are achieved. What we offer: Competitive salary aligned with experience and qualifications. Work benefits as per employment regulations. Complimentary medical insurance to ensure well‑being. Professional training and development opportunities. A chance to grow within a multinational group of companies with exciting career progression. Interested? Apply through job posting. Only candidates meeting the mandatory criteria will be contacted.
