Job Details Location: Vessels operating from Port aux Basques NL, North Sydney NS year round and Argentia NL summer Employment: Full-time, permanent spare and relief positions In-person Experience: Experienced Hourly Rate: $36.738 for Watchkeeping (Senior) Engineer, $34.890 for Junior Engineer Application Closing Date: Until filled Responsibilities Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, the Watchkeeping Engineer performs watch duties from the Main Control Room. The position is responsible for safe operation of all mechanical equipment and systems in the machinery spaces, refueling of the vessel, ensuring safety procedures are followed, performing preventive maintenance as scheduled and carrying out corrective maintenance as required. The Watchkeeping Engineer in charge of the watch must be capable of making quick decisions in critical situations, providing supervision to engine room staff, and maintaining good communication with other departments to ensure safe and efficient operation. When not assigned work as a Watchkeeping (Senior) Engineer, the engineer may be assigned work as a Junior Engineer per Collective Agreement. Qualifications At least 2 years recent experience in a similar position Valid STCW 6.1 and 6.2 Certificates Propulsion Plant Simulator Certificate II Transport Canada mandated Marine Medical Certificate Must demonstrate ability to lift, handle, and carry heavy objects over 20 kg Must be able to work in confined spaces Asset Qualifications Valid 3rd Class Motorship Certificate Graduate of a recognized Marine school in a related program Work experience as a Welder, Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Refrigeration, Machinist, Pipe-fitter, and Electronics Passenger Safety Management Confined Space Certification Why work for the Marine Atlantic team? Tour Pattern There is a monthly tour pattern for regularly assigned positions: 15 days on / 15 days off, normally commencing the 1st and 15th of each month. As a new spare and relief employee, you may be called for work in accordance with operational requirements; you may be required to work in intervals throughout both tours to obtain 15 days of work.
