Senior Mechanical Engineer - Power Generation Join to apply for the Senior Mechanical Engineer - Power Generation role at WSP in Canada Job Overview Our Energy subsector, part of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. From small installations to multi‑phase integrated megaprojects, we provide design, engineering and environmental services that contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation, sustain the use and protection of water and marine resources, and support clients as they transition to low‑carbon solutions. WSP is currently seeking a senior mechanical engineer to join teams located in any of our Canadian offices, with a preference for Calgary, AB; Moncton, NB; and Kitchener, ON. Responsibilities Design mechanical piping and equipment for renewable and fossil power generation facilities. Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, industry codes and standards to projects. Perform high‑complexity engineering designs—including analysis, calculations, research, and equipment selection. Develop P&IDs for power plant systems including steam cycles, boiler feed, condensate, water treatment, fuel gas, hydrogen, and utilities. Prepare sizing calculations and specifications for major equipment such as heat recovery steam generators, condensers, cooling towers, tanks, blowers, and pumps. Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical systems. Check design deliverables against industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards. Coordinate with other drafters, designers, and engineers and review work progress and results. Provide technical mentoring and/or oversight. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. 10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience within an EPCM environment, ideally focused on industrial facilities. Currently licensed professional engineer (P.Eng, Ing, PE) in their province of practice. Experience within a consulting environment preferred. Previous experience with power plant or renewable natural gas plant design desired. Proven experience as a senior mechanical expert, leading and mentoring others in front of clients. Working knowledge of Microstation or AutoCAD. Working knowledge of SmartPlant 3D or CADworx. Experience using Caesar II or AutoPipe. Experience using Thermoflow.
