Job Summary
The Signals and Communications, Construction Supervisor is responsible for leading the installation of all signal systems, inspections, and testing activities including placing locations in service. Additionally, the incumbent ensures the supervision of employees on the assigned territory.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Management
    1. Lead assigned personnel to ensure signal construction work is performed with CN’s and the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) standards and in conjunction with applicable collective bargaining agreements.
    2. Oversee groups of employees.
    3. Recommend appropriate corrective actions to resolve performance issues.
    4. Respond and resolve grievances.
  2. Safety Compliance
    1. Build safety compliance and improve safety results through efficiency testing and safety walkabouts.
    2. Provide positive and constructive feedback as well as coaching.
  3. Capital Projects
    1. Plan, implement, and handle capital projects to ensure the execution follows CN and FRA standards.
  4. Derailments and Disruptions
    1. Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service.
    2. Collaborate with Transportation and Mechanical to determine cause and future prevention.
Working Conditions

The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoors environments in various types of weather conditions. The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends when necessary and be available to respond to critical incidences. The role requires frequent travel (60%) for company business, at times without advance notice. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress.

RequirementsExperience
  1. Signals and Communications
    1. Minimum 5 years of experience in signals and communications.
    2. Minimum 2 years of experience in signal construction and in a supervisory position.
    3. Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset.
Education/Certification/Designation
  1. High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
  2. 2-year Technical Degree.
  3. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering.
  4. Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset.

  1. Knowledge of Signals and Communications (S&C) systems infrastructure and related safety appliances.
  2. Knowledge of S&C project management, standards, specifications, and procedures.
  3. Knowledge of S&C Inspection System (SCIS), Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), and Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS).
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
