About the Role The Senior Investment Analyst (SIA) is an active member of WCB’s Financial Services Team, assisting with all aspects of the investing monitoring and reporting processes. Key responsibilities will include: fund management and various analysis, transactions and legal due diligence, preparing financial records, models and reviewing investment recommendations, post investment monitoring initiatives, as well as general investment research. Investments are successfully managed in accordance with defined policies and objectives. The SIA will be responsible for monitoring the investment portfolio, providing oversight of the (Manager of fund managers (OCIO) in accordance with all WCB’s Investment Fund policies and objectives; interpreting performance reports, annual reports, ad-hoc reports and related materials for all asset classes; preparing summary analysis for management; reviewing the total portfolio against performance measurement targets, and the actual performance of the portfolios versus the appropriate benchmarks. The SIA coordinates and prepares financial information related to investment records and reporting to the Finance Audit and Risk Committee and the Investment Committee, including an annual review and co-ordination of the Statement of Investment Policy and Objectives; a coordination of an annual evaluation of activities for the OCIO in partnership with WCB’s external Investment Consultant; managing all WCB’s investment functions and custodial arrangements, as well as conducting custodian performance reviews. The SIA provides input with respect to investment performance monitoring and compliance. The SIA provides a recommendation to the Manager, Investments, Budgeting and Risk by clearly articulating outcomes, investment disciplines and the benefits of following the disciplines through assessing investment consultant’s performance and fees. The SIA performs reasonability testing by leveraging their well established relationships and effective communication skills with Fund Managers (OCIO), Consultants and the Custodian to enhance understanding and WCB’s ability to ensure quality assurance and compliance are adhered to at all times. The SIA completes quarterly accounting of investments in accordance to International Financial Reporting Standards “IFRS” and other applicable standards. This role is also responsible for the compilation of the annual Management Discussion and Analysis Report; coordinating the interim and annual external audit work related to all aspects of investments, the portfolio and the financial reporting; and at times providing back-up assistance to the finance staff and more specifically the Senior Financial Reporting Accountant position. The SIA performs preliminary research and due diligence on new investment opportunities across a variety of asset classes by participating in due diligence on new investments, including the identification of key investment merits and risks, performing valuation analysis, building and reviewing financial models as applicable, and assisting with legal and tax reviews. The SIA performs investment and operational due diligence to improve monitoring and due diligence capabilities by reporting on periodic review of specific investment issues and making recommendations to the Manager, Investments, Budgeting and Risk as required. The SIA performs other duties and participates in ad-hoc projects as assigned. Your Experience & Skills A university degree in Business and a professional designation (CPA or CFA). Three years’ of experience working with investments with a dedicated focus on portfolio performance, monitoring financial and operational results and interacting with investment partners.
