Course description:

Through the use of teaching materials adapted to their level, students will continue to develop their linguistic abilities and to use them in specific situations. For instance, students will learn how to ask for information, how to refuse or accept an offer. On completion of this course, a linguistic system of basic but useful structures will have been assimilated. An awareness of various francophone cultures and communities will be developed.

Class schedule: Tuesdays (9am-11am, 12pm-1pm) and Thursdays (9am-11am, 12pm-1pm).

[NOTE: The mode of instruction for this course is expected to be in-person. However, if this changes for any reason, you will be provided with as much advance notice as practicable.]

Sessional dates of appointment: May 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025

Salary:

  1. Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
  2. Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $9,930.79 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
  3. Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
  4. Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,326.62 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
  5. Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
  6. Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $10,570.02 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:

  1. Graduate-level degree in French Studies.
  2. Demonstrated experience teaching university-level French-as-a-second-language courses.
  3. (Near-)native competence in spoken and written French.

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university-level, is preferred.
  2. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Description of duties:

All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; ordering of all necessary readings; supervision of TAs (if any) assigned to the course.
