Our team works on behalf of our clients to implement and coordinate repair, replacement and abatement projects, often working with our other Environmental Services and Buildings Engineering groups to support required remediation and design activities. Working closely with our clients, our dedicated professionals help to establish and understand the specific needs of our clients and tailor our technical solutions in alignment with their specific business and project objectives. Clients across all sectors including commercial real estate, K-12 education, higher education, healthcare, and all levels of government have partnered with us to provide assessments for the purposes of re-financing, acquisition/disposition and capital planning.Stantec’s Calgary office has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Environmental Technologist to join our team, supporting both our Hazardous Materials & Industrial Hygiene and Site Investigation & Remediation practice areas. Reporting to the Team Leader, this role offers the chance to work on a variety of dynamic projects in a collaborative and growth-focused environment.Your Key ResponsibilitiesUnderstanding the application of occupational health and safety principles and regulations, especially as they relate to industrial hygiene and hazardous materialsPlanning and conducting site assessments for hazardous materials including (but not limited to) asbestos, mould, lead, PCBs, ODSs, mercury and silicaCollecting samples pertaining to the above for accurate logging on chain of custody documents and submission to independent laboratories for analysisEstimating quantities of hazardous materials for the purposes of abatement project planningConducting indoor air quality assessments and testingConducting industrial hygiene assessments and testingConducting site work associated with monitoring of hazardous materials abatement projects (e.g. asbestos, mould, lead), including on-site observation of contractor activities and collection of applicable air samplesAssisting with the operation and calibration of air quality testing equipmentPreparing detailed technical reportsAssisting with the preparation of proposals for the above-noted types of projectsCompleting site visits and reporting for Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) field workConducting groundwater sampling and surface water sampling monitoring programsAssisting with environmental remediation field workEvening and weekend work may be requiredFrequent travel within Canada (primarily Western Canada) and potentially the U.S. will be requiredYour Capabilities and CredentialsGeneral knowledge of buildings, building systems and building constructionFoundational understanding and hands-on experience with occupational hygiene testing and sampling proceduresBasic understanding of soil, groundwater, and surface water testing and sampling protocols would be considered an assetStrong verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional MS Office skillsStrong note-taking skills and attention to detailProven ability to take initiative and contribute effectively in both independent and team settings is essentialExperience or knowledge pertaining to occupational/industrial hygiene, occupational health & safety regulations and/or the hazardous materials abatement industry would be an assetA valid driver\'s license and vehicle is requiredEducation and ExperiencePost-secondary training, course work, diploma or degree pertaining to environmental technology, building sciences, occupational health and safety and/or occupational/industrial hygiene.One to two years’ experience would be considered an asset.Our typical office environment involves working with computers and remaining relatively sedentary. Stantec offers a flexible work arrangement for desk-based tasks including working from Stantec office locations, working from home, or a mix depending on the situation.
